I make my own. I have very salty sweat so if I'm outside working or exercising I need a lot of electrolytes.

1 tsp table salt
2 tsp lite salt
1 tsp baking soda

That gives you 4164 mg sodium and 700 mg potassium. That's pretty close to 4X LMNT and I mix that in a gallon of water. I like the baking soda because of the bicarbonate buffer, but you could just do another 1/2 tsp table salt and get the same sodium. It doesn't have magnesium but I take a daily multivitamin that has it.

I also add about 1/4 cup sugar per gallon. It tastes better, can help with absorption of electrolytes, and also provides energy for your excercise/athletic activity. You can leave it out if you want. I flavor it with basic kool-aid packs, the kind with no sweetener. It's also optional if you want to be more natural but it tastes better.

One other thing to watch out for with any of these high electrolyte drinks is you can get close to having a hyperosmotic solution which can lead to osmotic diarrhea, similar to when you drink the bowel prep solution for colonoscopy. I think some people are more sensitive to it, but you could always dilute with more water which should help.

I’m not trying to be a dick but $44 for a jar of pink salt with a little potassium citrate and artificial flavoring is absolutely ridiculous. Guess I’ll be mixing my own.

Morton lite salt. Gives you sodium and potassium.

I have a container of lite salt in the cabinet that I’ve used for this, I was just willing to pay a little bit to have everything already in a jar. I’m surprised that even the “cheap” versions of this stuff are still 8-10x what you’d pay for the ingredients.

I don’t necessarily disagree. I might start trying to mix my own with Himalayan salt, lite salt, stevia, and some Tru Lemon packets.

Here’s the link for Hydrate Pro.
About as close of a comparison as you can get to LMNT for a fraction of the price.

I tried this tonight in a 750ml bike bottle and it was pretty good (items purchased from Wal-Mart):

1/4 TSP Himalayan salt (Great Value Wal-Mart)
1/4 TSP Lite salt (Morton)
1 packet True Lemon DRINK MIX (not crystallized lemon)

This gave:
Sodium 880mg
Potassium 350mg
Carbs 3g

Tastes great. I also threw in 50mg magnesium bisglycinate. That sweetened it up slightly more, but it was fine without it. Without the magnesium, this runs $0.28 per serving. With the magnesium (expensive Thorne brand), it is $0.46 per serving. You can get it down to $0.31 per serving using the Nutricost magnesium powder off of Amazon.

You might be able to get the cost and/or carbs lower by using a different drink mix than TruLemon brand. For instance, Great Value has some zero sugar drink mix that, if used, would lower the price by $0.08 per serving. So if you went that route, your cost would be $0.20 per serving without magnesium, $0.23 per serving with Nutricost magnesium. BUT it is sweetened with aspartame, while TruLemon is sweetened with stevia and cane sugar. I like to avoid aspartame, and a couple of grams of carbs per bottle isn’t going to kill me.

For reference, Relyte’s ingredients and cost are:
Sodium 810mg
Potassium 400mg
Magnesium 50mg
Calcium 60mg
Chloride 1280mg
Coconut water powder 80mg
Price: $0.64 per serving with Amazon Subscribe & Save, $0.75 without.

LMNT is:
Sodium 1000mg
Potassium 200mg
Magnesium 60mg
Carbs 2g
Price: $1.28 per serving with Amazon Subscribe & Save, $1.50 without.

Someone mentioned Hydrate Pro, so here it is:
Sodium 1000mg
Potassium 200mg
Magnesium 60mg
Carbs 1.5g

Hydrate Pro is actually more expensive than Relyte (but about 1/2 the cost of LMNT) when you look at the cost per serving: $0.66 per serving with Amazon Subscribe & Save, $0.78 without.

"Just Live" doesn't look terrible, but it's low in sodium (500mg), high in carbs (7g), and costs $0.83 per serving (per its website).
