Thinking about going down this rabbit hole and having my near 90 year old parents tested before it's too late.
What do I need to know, what tests, and which company(s)?

It's just a way for the corporate overlords to collect data on you. My nephew did it and now I can't kill anybody.

I did Ancestory.com and Family Tree dna, basically just wanted to see how they compared. Results were almost exactly the same.Family Tree sent me a list of about 1200 people I shared dna with contact information, mostly 3’rd,4th and 5th cousins.I’m like wtf,I’ve got 1’st cousins I haven’t talked to in years so I’m not about to start contacting distant cousins.
Before you do it,be aware sometimes a can of worms gets opened. My stepson sent his grandmothers( my wife’s mother)sample to Ancestory.Make a long story short, her biological father was not who she thought it was.Obviously her mother enagaged in some hanky-pansy back in the day.So my wife has some biological relatives out there she didn’t know about, she refuses to have her dna tested.

Thanks
Pretty sure between the Alzheimer's with one and the Dementia for the other that whatever happens they'll not remember by the next television commercial. Was thinking more that this could be of benefit for the nephews, cousins, and next gens to come. And less worried that my sixty something year-old self was going to suddenly start raping and pillaging. Adultery, rape, incest, yeah those could definitely rock the boat.
(to me)
The privacy/anonymity of various companies seem to be a major concern; as would posting to some type of hey look at message board and the forever costly potential for hanky-panky by the insurance industry.
