What was the recovery like and how long before you were back full speed? I've had problems off and on for some time and debating whether to have it done. I've read the time before being cleared to go back to lifting as from two weeks to 6 months depending on the Dr. Firsthand knowledge will be appreciated.

Well, I take 3-4 out a week on average. Hardly ever keep anyone in over night. Usually sore a couple days, from passing Trocars through the muscle layers( micro bleeding in muscle sheaths of abdominal wall causes some discomfort) I advise no lifting/ exertion for a week, but will let the patient return to unrestricted activity after one week if doing well. I’ll see them a week after surgery to see how their system has adjusted, check for diarrhea, as some get diarrhea and have to run to the bathroom after eating, as the CCK hormonal spikes after losing the gallbladder Wall and makes them really regular...I use ultrasonic knife and get almost no thermal damage to the liver bed, so I get less pain and much better outcomes post operatively IMO.

Thanks. So after a week if they are doing well you let them return to the gym, including heavy squats, etc?

I have a friend who had it. He was back after a few weeks. Biggest effect was he would shite within 15-30 minutes after any food he ate. That happened for well over a year

I have. They want you restricted for about 10 days. Back to full speed in two or so weeks (everyone is different). I would take it kind of easy lifting up to 4 weeks or so after the procedure. Minor pain for a couple of days just due to them yanking an organ out of you. The biggest adjustment for me was needing to be close to a restroom after eating. The greasier the food, the worse the reaction. After 6 months for me, the bathroom issue went away.

I was back in the gym after about three weeks, but had to take it slowly. I was doing a lot of spin classes at the time and since that requires core strength, I had to wait an additional week or so for that.

I would recommend starting slowly the first week back to see what you can tolerate and building up from there. I tried to jump right back in to what I was doing before and it was too much.

I have a couple of gallstones, but no symptoms. Do most wait for an attack before they have it removed?
