Ammo can lift

I saw this exercise on YouTube. It's used as a qualifier for the Marines fitness. I'm trying to figure out how to simulate the weight, without buying a full ammo can ($400+).
I've been using a 10# ball. But the hand placement is more closed in and it's hard to figure how the reps translate, if at all.
Any suggestions?

You can get an ammo can for cheap at gun ranges. Fill it up with whatever.
