Zach Johnson, “they’ve lost the golf course”

That’s very strong coming from him.

Admittedly I am a casual golf fan/observer. I don’t really understand what his point was. Is the point that the people in charge of manicuring the golf course have made mistakes?
Is it an accusatory comment? Or is it more benign and that just the weather has made it unplayable?
I agree it’s a very interesting comment and seems like it carries a lot of weight. I just don’t really understand what it means to “lose the golf course”
ETA: is the issue specifically about the greens?

It’s roasted and hard as frick Zach needs to quit whining and play the course that is presented, I hate when they whine and do this stupid shite.

It means the greens crew has fricked it up, sad

It means the USGA gets too caught up in protecting the score to the point that it becomes a bit of a circus vs what the game should really be about. Let the guys go low. Who gives af?

It becomes luck basically, why do t they put some windmills out

A good shot from a good position hasn’t been punished. When you get out of position is the issue

Exactly. Mike Davis needs to go

Mike Davis acts as if he cares about bringing the game back to the masses but tell me what common man plays a course like this? It’s not relatable and looks like an arse whipping vs fun. Good luck getting the game to appeal to a fringe player from watching this tournament.

I’ll just assume you aren’t watching and disregard this post

Do you need a Kleenex to share with ZJ?

Not everybody can rule the public goat ranch like you

Rose has hit 1 green and is 2 over. Doesn’t seem unfair

Lol and you tee it up at a goat ranch

Screw that, these guys are too used to playing driver - wedge on every hole. A course like this makes them use every club in the bag and reward laying up rather then going for the green.
These types of courses are what Jack played on weekly

They cant really reward good shots at this point, which is unfortunate. But the course is not unplayable.

I disagree with what he said.
If it was all luck at this point then explain to me how we have multiple major champions of the top five. That would be a hell of a coincidence.
I would also disagree with anyone saying this is not entertaining. I love watching guys go low, but I also like watching them get their arse whipped. I find this to be incredibly riveting.

I don't think this is accurate. I believe that the course setup is dictated by the USGA. They are telling them how much to water, where to put the pins, and everything else. That was probably what Phil Mickelson was doing, was issuing a statement to them through his play. And he's probably saying that behind closed doors.
Eta punctuation for clarification.
