I consistently hook the ball, esp. with my irons. I have always used standard size grips, but I've been hearing lately about the benefits of larger grips. Has anyone had success changing to larger grips?

It’s easier to leave the club face more open with larger grips, so yes.

Conventional wisdom says yes.

But they never really help me when I had the hooks.

I would try one club first to see before re-gripping your whole set. Grips are down right expensive these days.

I regripped my entire set for under $60 (except putter and driver)

LINK

Got some Saplize grips from Amazon that are the equivalent to the tour pride +4. As my driver does have the +4 I can truly say I actually like the Saplize better. Part of that is probably the customization that went into it.

I put a layer of duct tape under the 2-sided tape to help absorb some more vibration (arthritis sucks).

My experience with mid-sized (probably closer to over sized with the extra layer of tape) is control is dramatically improved, especially with the wedges.

Maybe, share a photo of your hands on the club, there may be an issue there.

I have been hooking my irons for a while now. For the past week have been practicing with a more neutral grip on both hands - yesterday played 9 holes and 85-90% of my iron shots went straight.

now if i can figure out how to hit my driver straight lol.

Exactly what I did this afternoon. I had a larger grip put on my 8-iron, which is one of the clubs that I tend to hook the most. I'm going to hit balls after work and see if it helps.

Get closer to the ball.

Yes. Don’t over do it though, it’s just a bandaid fix. My big miss with my driver is a snap hook, so to remedy it I switched to midsize grips and turn my right hand inward to where I can see a few knuckles.

John Daly while golfing with Bryson said people should be focused on getting fitted for their grips more than the club. I thought that was an interesting piece of info.

Open your stance and weaken your grip, right hand, or left if your left-handed. You might pull it though, better than hook.

Theoretically, yes but your grip has a lot to do with it as well.

I originally put an oversized grip on my driver and I found it helped me a lot. Couldn’t explain it mechanically but it felt more comfortable to me and I didn’t feel like I was choking the grip. I’ve gone to oversized on all my clubs now.

Not necessarily if your club path is way too the right.

99% of my hooks are due to not properly engaging my hips to start the downswing.

Try moving the ball back in your stance 1/4 of inch at a time till hook lesson.

Grip is definitely more relaxed, not trying to squeeze it.

Since I’ve gone to my custom mid-sized grips my iron accuracy has significantly improved. A lot of my shots these days are pin seekers. I’ve had 3 this week I got the yardage perfect on that were kick ins.

Yes but I’d fix the swing/setup errors before I went with that
