3 3 putts and 1 4 putt and I am 9 over. That’s ridiculous

Get a small putting mat, rug, carpet whatever. Putt 5’ers daily.

Made me plenty better than I was. Don’t need anything expensive. I paid $25 for mine.

Won’t solve all the problems. But i figured if I can sink 5’ putts almost automatic I should never three putt.

I would spell it first before even attempting any strokes

Find something that works for you. Don't do what everyone else says you should do. I personally put left hand low claw grip on 3 footers and in. On the moderate putts, I do pop stroke looking shot, and then on long putts, I dont use a line and make a slow deliberate stroke.

I rarely 3 putt now (once every 2-3 rounds), and I miss far less in the moderate range.

Usually because your speed is way off. Only one fix for that.

90% of putts that are short don't go in.

One of the guys I regularly play with is ALWAYS way too long. (no homo). Literally, he could be 2' out on a putt, and hit it 10' too long.

When I'm struggling with distance, I pay attention to if I'm long or short. If I'm consistently one or the other, I'm trying to overcorrect it the opposite direction.

Another thing that helps me with distance is to learn the value of each inch in a backswing. The general rule I've learned is that one inch of backswing is good for one foot in distance. If you have a 3' putt, only bring your putter back 3". Adjust accordingly for green speeds.

so you'd take a 2' backswing for a 25' putt? That seems ridiculous

I practice on the putting green and try to roll the ball to the hole. If I'm long or short, it tells me that the green is faster/slower than my natural assessment.
So, instead of recalibrating (each and every round), I just pretend the hole is closer/farther than it is.
The reads are the same. The line and roll will be the same. But how hard I think I have to hit it is modified by the adjusted speed of the green.

For instance, Santa Maria has some fast greens. I usually have to aim about 1/3 to 1/2 the actual distance of the to the hole to get my putting weight right.
The greens on Copper mill are so slow that I have to aim 1/3 past the hole to get it there.

If you practice or play enough, you should be able to avoid three putting.

Tom Watson said he used to practice rolling a ball three inches. The ball had to stop after it rolled three inches. Three shall be the number of the putting and the number of the putting shall be three. Four shalt thou not putt, neither shalt thou putt two, excepting that thou then proceedeth to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the number of the putting, be reached, then rollest thou the white golf ball in the direction of thine hole, who, being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it.
