JT - Lock
Collin - Lock
Burns - Best putter. Trending upward
Griffin - Bulldog
McNealy - Consistent
Cam Young - Length, trending

Cantlay isn't playing well and hasn't for awhile. Gotterup has cooled. Keegan is going to play it safe and stick to captaining.

I don't think Cantlay or Morikawa needs to be anywhere near this team.
So you don’t take guys with good records in the Ryder Cup and are in the top 15.

Yeah, that makes sense. Like taking Fowler last time with a horrible Ryder Cup record. Nobody could predict he’d be the only player with zero points could they?

Keegan should pick himself. Top 12, got screwed last time, good Ryder Cup record. If there was any player not named Keegan Bradley who did that he’d take them in a heartbeat and should.

Who he should take

7 - JT (good Ryder cup record) top 10
8 - Morikawa (good Ryder cup record) top 10
9 - Cantlay (good Ryder cup record) top 15
10 - Bradley (good Ryder cup record) top 15
11 - Cam Young (good amateur match play history, hits a lot of greens, good putter) top 15
12 - Ben Griffith (consistent, good tee to green) top 10

Who I think he takes? Replace himself with Sam Burns

I can’t see Keegan picking Harman for this team and on this course. Would be mind boggling if he did.

Seriously? What a lazy arse take…

JT’s career record across Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup competitions is 17-7-4. It was even better before Rome (basically having to carry Spieth).

Current OWGR is 5. In a down year for him, he has a signature event win in 2025, three T2’s, and almost ten T10’s. 17/19 cuts made.

That's the problem, he is Keegan and is the captain. What makes team USA better:

1. Fully focused player in Burns and fully focused captain in Keegan
2. Half focused player and captain in Keegan.

I'm not talking about vindication for last time or that he is a bad person if he picks himself. I am just arguing that #1 gives the team a better chance at winning. If Scottie was somehow Captain, it's a different argument. The difference between Burns and Keegan is not enough to justify Keegan having to split his duties.

Agreed! Burns also has Ryder Cup experience (with a bad taste in his mouth from 2023). He can putt lights out, matches up well at Bethpage, and he gels with pretty much everybody. Locker room guy. KB would be stupid to leave him at home.

It’s a tough call. I seriously doubt once the decision is made about what players are assigned to what matches other than worry about it the captain isn’t going anything.

So I think the match play aspect of his game will matter more. It’s a tough opponent.

Honestly kind of wish he'd just step down as captain. His other captains are Gary Woodland, Jim Furyk, Kevin Kisner, Webb Simpson and Brandt Snedeker. They are certainly capable of handling the duties. I get it, it's an honor but you can be captain when you're past your playing days.

Kind of ridiculous for them to even name him captain as a "Sorry Zach Johnson was a douche" while he's still winning PGA tour events. Puts him in a bad spot, not exactly doing him any favors.

He could have turned it down and said to give it to him when he is done competing. Keegan didn't help himself when he said he would only be on the team if he auto-qualified last year.

He could have, but who does that? Would have been seen as disrespectful. There was literally no reason for them to pick Keegan other than making up for the bad look they go from the last go around and at the same time telling him they don't expect him to be good enough to qualify.

I disagree. I think it would have been taken as completely reasonable if he said "I am honored, but I think I have an opportunity to make the team in 25. I'd rather have a chance to be captain when I can no longer compete for a spot on the team." I could be making this up in my head, but I think Tiger turned them down for the captaincy for this Ryder Cup before Keegan was asked.

ETA: Found it. Keegan could have gone this route.

quote:

Tiger Woods has declined the offer to be the U.S. Ryder Cup captain for the 2025 event at Bethpage Black, citing his numerous commitments and the time required for the role. He felt he couldn't fully dedicate himself to the responsibilities of captaincy while also managing his existing PGA Tour duties. While he's stepping away from the captaincy, he hasn't ruled out future opportunities to captain the team.

Let Woodland run it. I agree it’s a bit of an FU when they were trying to make amends for Zach’s idiocy. They completely whiffed.

I forgot JT won at Heritage. I agree he should be on the team.
I do not agree Morikawa should be on the team over any of Burns, Maverick, and Young, who I think should all should be on the team. I do not think Keegan should be a playing captain. I think he should be captain only, since he accepted the job. If he does play, one of the 3 listed will be left off, and my bet is that person is Burns. He has been left off many teams that he should have been on, amateur and professional. I hope Scheffler has some influence to get Sam on the team.

Top 10, great Ryder Cup record.

Does no one look at how guys perform in the Ryder Cup? We have morons leaving JT, Morikawa AND Cantlay off who have proven they’re good in that format for untested guys because they had a good month.

Agree with most of this but I’d leave off morikawa and if Bradley plays I’m good with that but I want burns on the team.
