When my annual pass expires on the south course, I plan on doing the Nola card at TPC

It’s a shame. Course is really going to struggle. My buddies and I left in March right after Juhas left and Casper took over. Enjoying Chateau right now. Greens are slick...maybe too slick.

Edit: NOLA card is nice but the booking window blows. Usually got stuck noon or after tee times on Saturday.

It is sad what has happened to English Turn. The greens have multiple different types of grass on them and the newly sodded areas do not look promising. The rough is impossible to find a ball in. The fairways and some of the approaches are the only bright spots left.

I got a pretty good deal. I had them match what I was paying at ET. Call and see what they can do for you if you're interested.

I heard he let the greens go, and was fired as a result. Not sure if that’s true or not. Just what I’ve been told by someone who is a member out there.

I’m trying to decide what to do membership wise for the upcoming year. My pass at city park expires at the end of the month. I want to try to play every weekend, but also with work I’ll need to take clients out to play during the week every now and then.

Does the Nola Card at TPC really have issues with booking tee times since there is only a 48 hour window?

Interesting he would get the blame for that - I assume we're talking about Sean...the head pro there?

I had the card for part for a year during parts of 2016 and 2017. While I enjoyed it, tee times were difficult to book at times. I am not sure if that has changed or not. I just looked at their tee sheet for Saturday as of today and you have a 6:34am, 6:59am, 10:15am, and 11:40am before 12pm. It's Tuesday right now so maybe check back on Thursday to see what it looks like.

I very much enjoyed my time at English Turn just so inconvenient.

Not sure names, I may be mistaken too. Just what I was told via a quick text message when I asked a buddy what was going on out there mid round.

I am a member of ET. I think the issue with the rough is more of a temporary one as I think they have gotten so much rain every day for a couple weeks now that they have not been able to cut the rough effectively.

I will say it has been sad to see the greens deteriorate so much.

to be fair they are basically still the same original greens from 1988

they are in need of a complete re-do, that would also allow them to add back the undulation and of course extend the greens back to their original square footage

Talked to someone last week that said Billy Casper golf was raking over the Island.

Played yesterday

I’m not a good golfer but I’ll reiterate some complaints

The greens have ALWAYS been small. But they seem even smaller now. If you aren’t dialed in your ball is off the elevated postage stamp green and in a bunker. That’s how it’s always been but even more so now. They seem smaller and smaller.

Putts were hard to read. Some were fast. Some were slow.

Some greens had patches of sand on them. Idk what the reasoning is.

Some bunkers were wet. With just seashells and rocks.

The rough was insane. I played the old course last year and the caddies said it was grown to Open type conditions and they had Sunday Open pin positions. I felt like I was back playing in that condition. Lost balls in the rough. They’d just disappear. I’m talking mid calf length grass.

It’s just always been a ridiculously hard course and to have it not in immaculate condition makes it almost circus golf conditions.

I never played it frequently but it definitely seemed extremely harder than normal given the conditions.

The greens are comically small. Comical.

If this is true then it's amazing they stayed in good shape for as long as they did. They've gotta be re-done. It sucks but USGA recommends re-doing them every 15-20 years. 32 years of useful service life is far better than what they should've hoped/planned for

Agree on the inconsistencies of speed, and patch work. Wasn’t overly disappointed with size of greens but to many good courses between me and ET to go back. I truly wish them luck moving forward

yep. they did a "cheap" re-do like back in 2006 or 7 from what I understand which was just the topsoil which generally is NOT what old greens like those need

I mean, you can tell if you've been around enough how they have sunk and shrunk

Not really abnormal, but the new owner decided things like cart paths were worth putting money into rather than the greens, bunkers, etc.

Typical

I played yesterday and the course was in the worst shape I’ve ever seen it. Granted they had just aerated the greens within the last 24 hours, but it seems like they created damage to the greens that wasnt even there Saturday. Plus they had only cut roughly half the rough, which made it look even more horrendous. I’m in agreement that the greens need to be completely replaced. Very much a shame because the greens were in great condition last summer.

Just reading all this. That’s sad to see because I really like the course.

What billy Casper did to the north course at city park should go into the hall of fame of all time mismanaged golf courses. They literally had to make greens in the fairways under Billy Casper just so the course was playable.
