Have played before but heading back out for a work trip at the end of January.

Looks like I've already missed all the 90 day non resident windows.

Do I have a good chance of getting on if I just show up as a single to walk on early in the morning? Anyone have experience doing this? Would be on a Sunday and then Friday afternoon, so obviously not ideal scenario.

I did it a few years ago; took me about an hour to get added to a group.

When I was there a few years ago I got there maybe 15 minutes before they opened and was able to go off before the tee times…so. I wait but it was an early morning. Also their driving range was tiny so not sure if that will be an option

Go as early as possible (6-7am). I got there at 9 and didn’t get a tee time till 2:45. Basically just have to wait for no shows. I put south only, but would have gotten on north before noon just fyi.

So my Buddies Sister is a member at the Grand in San Diego. When he goes to play Torrey Pines he takes his 9 year old nephew who lives there and gets the local resident rates.

If you stay at that Hilton on the golf course they block some tee times for guests.

I'm right there with you, same time and everything. We probably work in the same industry . Reddit makes it seem like they will find a way to get you on. Might have to wait an hour or so, but if you are a single it shouldn't be a problem.

If you’re referencing the Grand Golf Club in Del Mar at the Fairmont then your buddies sister did something right in life. Or married right

Course is closed for the Farmer's unfortunately.

Looking at playing Maderas instead? Anyone played? Is that a good idea vs other courses in the area?

Maderas and aviara were fun courses. Played then both mid December along with torrey. Aviara was my favorite. It reminded me of a scottsdale course. Maderas greens were so fast multiple workers apologized... something with cool air and sun, not sure. But both were really fun. Played behind the owner at aviara and hit the drive of my life and drove a par 4 he was putting on. He walked to my ball and stared back for 20 seconds. Pin was back left and I barely rolled on, besides his slow, dramatic play, loved the course.

Yes.

If you walk up and put yourself on the waiting list, they will squeeze you in when you come up on the list and a spot is open.

I had a tee time around 2:15 local time around this time last year. I got there early and put myself on the waiting list and I teed off an hour sooner.

Still could barely squeeze in 12 holes because there are a shitload of walkers and the front nine took 3+ hours and the sun sets early at this time of the year; 5:30ish.

I did birdie number 7, though,
