I spend probably 10 minutes every lesson with the golf pros at my club going over my takeaway, so the people that get payed to professionally analyze and fix swings strongly disagree. I have a natural inclination to take it deep inside and they’re finally getting me to come back on plane. This is a drill that they have me do that finally made me visually understand what I needed to do, although they have a double sided flashlight so you can track the light on the takeaway and at the top of the swing and follow through. I had a brutal hook before and I’m finally hitting it straight again and more importantly I’m making much better contact every swing.

all that's nice statically, and done slowly. but dynamically, in full speed reality, you can't direct the arms in the downswing reliably and successfully repeat the same motion.

the only point of the backswing is to get your body into a position to best throw your arms down and forward using your hips and shoulders. the arms shouldn't actively control anything but the grip.

I’m not acting like a swing guru, just giving my opinion. Does that bother you?

Doesn't bother me, I'm not dumb enough to try something that stupid.
