I’ve been struggling with hitting the ball consistently. It’s been fat, thin, or off the toe. Went and played Santa Maria today and the same inconsistency’s. The back 9 I started to relax and really drive by back knee towards the pin and low and behold long straight shots. Can driving my back knee really help that much or was it just a fluke. Did I get my hopes up that I finally have some idea how to play this game. TIA

A lot can cause that. Swaying. Grip too tight. Inconsistent plane. Head movement (if not related to swaying)

Golf swing is a body rotation with connected hands.

Its a pivot through the ball with the hands following the pivot.

When you started moving your knee to the pin you were starting to pivot.

When you start back feel like everything comes back and rotates to start backswing with connected arms to your body. Coming down rotate through the ball and dont slap at it with your arms. This is how you get consistent, you learn timing and temp with your pivot. This is why everyone obsesses over the hips, what they are really talking about is body rotation and pivot to hit the shot.

this drawing is of a dude pivoting through with his body, hes rotating through the shot.

You gotta practice this with small swings for a while.

Get a lesson.

Your back knee drive is just the feeling that you relate to. That move probably freed up something critical, like leveling your shoulders or releasing your hips. A small indicator move like that can be a good swing key

I’ve been really trying to relax and not kill the ball and it seems to help some. I feel like I’m one or two key swing moments from being somewhat consistent. Now my putting and pitch shots need work. I just want to be able to hit straight decent shots. I’ve tried to get in touch with Chris over at Greystone but have yet to hear anything back.

Could be early extending. When you come out of posture, even just a little, you have to get flippy with the club. Best thing would be to get a video and see what you’re doing

think long think wrong, all that technical bs reminds me of Roy in Tin Cup, frick all dat thinking, it gets in the way cuz your brain can’t possibly process everything required to execute the shot if you attempt to direct it, clear your mind, picture the shot and let your brain go to work and direct your body to produce the shot, get out your own way baw, hit the range with that mentality for a few weeks, small steps progressing to larger, small victory build on overall game and approach, then take that new approach to the links and have fun...

If I had to guess, when you were tense, you were trying to use arms to much. When you relaxed, you used your body and the arms came around like they should.

Good swing thought is "Slow is smooth, smooth is fast"

Grip should be like squeezing a stick of butter-ish.
