It looks like Range Finders will be allowed this year on tour without slope. Do you think this will speed up play or make no difference?

Yes. It will help speed up some rounds. But not as much as you would think. They are often waiting on the green to clear before hitting... not just getting the right number.

One thing I’m a little worried about with these speed rules is the number of shots we get to see. We already miss out on a lot of golf. If players are playing faster and hitting quicker, production teams may have to start picking and choosing even more. I’m not saying this will happen or even that the effect would be significant to notice, just something I’m hoping isn’t made worse.

The PGA is not the PGA Tour. And it will make zero difference. They'll still check the book. They did a trial run on the web tour and it made zero difference.

College teams use rangefinders, and they're some of the slowest players on the planet.

Not the whole tour but 3 tournaments so far. It’s an interesting move and people will be hypersensitive to any speed ups. But you’re probably right that it doesn’t change anything. The books will still be used to find slopes and landing areas.

It shouldn't change anything. Just wont see as many shots live which from home you won't notice the difference. May actually cut down on time between viewing shots.

I’d rather them not spend any time at all between shots and show us more golf even if it’s some guys out of the top 10 who we don’t know as well. Wasn’t it the US open last year when they made a point of showing every player on TV at least once? I want more of that.

You mean you don’t want to hear stories about a caddie’s dog’s journey with cancer?

I do like to hear the discussions between caddy and player when making club selection.

Also, I don’t think it will affect the viewing. Most of the shots are tape delayed anyway. You see it well during the majors and their is a simulcast on the website and you watch one guy hit (say, on the featured pairing), and then about a minute later you see that shot being shown on the tv coverage.
