I've noticed there are quite a bit of courses that look legit but are private. Any good ones besides Kickapoo?

Oak Tree National is top shelf but it might be private.

Daughter played twin hills twice - it’s solid

LINK

Karsten Creek is not too far away in Stillwater and Jimmie Allen in Norman not quite as good but solid

The muni courses around okc and Edmond had really cool layouts and were always in decent shape when I lived there 2010-2015. Kickingbird in Edmond was my favorite.

Lincoln Park, Kickingbird, Lake Hefner, Crimson Creek in El Reno, all solid courses.

Okc has some of the best muni golf of any similar sized city in the country. Hefner has two courses and their grill is insane. Kickingbird just redone and great layout. Lincoln has two courses but west is better. John Conrad just redone and greens and fairways super nice. All old school, shorter tree lined courses.

Lincoln Park has two courses, Perry Maxwell-designed. Both are fun layouts.

Trosper is another good muni.

Hefner's where I played growing up and in H.S. Hefner's not my favorite two muni courses in the metro, but they are always busy. Conditions have been spotty in recent years.

Kickingbird - I haven't played it since they re-did it. It used to be a good challenge (some really tight holes) but haven't played there since they revamped it. It was a classic course, hope they didn't completely change it up..

Winter Creek in Blanchard is semi-private. It's a little more $$, 55-ish, and a 30 minute drive south of the metro, but it's a fun course and never too busy.

Firelake in Shawnee (30 min. east of metro) is fun, fair, and always in great shape.

If you want a challenge, Jimmie Austin on the OU campus is semi-private. Plan ahead because members get priority. Plan on a $130 - $140 green fee. Always in immaculate shape, but it's long and most greens are heavily guarded.

All my friends like West better, but the East is more fun imo. More birdie opportunities too.
