I am a single handicap player, I just can't get my driver figured out

What's the opinion on heavier driver shaft vs lighter. I struggle with going too far back and throwing the driver.

When I get sequenced and deliver correctly 280ish is a good average drive, sadly that's about 25% of the time. The rest of the time I hit it between 220-250 with a fade

Irons and wedges are perfect, current shafts kbs tour stiff+ 120g

The driver costs me so much in a round of golf it drives me nuts

My driver swing speed is slow in my opinion I wonder if my driver shaft is too light and I am struggling to set it

Any thoughts

Odds are you're coming in too steep

If you are losing it right, start with X-Stiff and work your way back.

Hazard Smoke X-Stiff 65g or 70g shaft. You will lose swing speed, but gain accuracy.

Doesnt hurt to go to your local golf shop and try a few shafts out.

also, if you hit a fade, learn to play a fade. It takes an entire side of the course out of play and allows you to develop a consistent shot. Love the power fade flight

Yes I know I am, problem is I can't feel the driver in the back swing so I go to far up and over, makes me throw it from the top to try and get back to the ball.

It's so frustrating, I am thinking maybe a heavier shaft would help

Yes I have a slight fade on all my shots. The driver is just ridiculous though. I hit my fairway further consistently

Get that X stiff and see how it treats ya. If your current driver is banana peeling on you, the flex is too weak imo

X-stiff will push the ball further right.

OP, I struggled mightily with a driver and became much better after playing a SR flex for a season. You won’t get it 100 yards if you over power it… it forces you to feel the head and shaft.

If you don’t like that idea, try to find the bend profile that allows you to feel the head throughout. If you can’t feel the head and know where the face is pointing throughout the swing, your brain will start guessing and make subtle changes. I play a low launch low spin shaft and it just clicks really well with my tempo. If you have a stock shaft, it may be a high launch higher spinning shaft which could be why you’re inconsistent. If you were fit for it, they were probably chasing numbers rather than repeatability.

Get with a pro.
Harvey Pennick once said, “I’ve shortened many swings.”

Can you pause at the top?

Also, ball position might could be moved forward IF you are too steep.

Are you delivering the club UP at impact on the monitor with driver?

Could your shoulders be inadvertently open a bit?

One session with a pro could be fruitful.

Try, shortening your backswing and standing a bit more upright. If you are throwing the club from the top and you’re losing the angle of your left wrist and thus losing power and direction. Give it a try.

you'd be surprised. If the flex is too weak, then the club face wont be square at impact and will increase the side spin.

Where are you located? I’d suggest going to see Paxton Clabaugh at Pelican Point. He will have you straight quickly.

Hit it straight, long, and far. That's all I got.

Probably losing all sorts of power from bad angles. Usually an overswing will cause your lead elbow to bend and you end up bringing the club back towards you, losing power.

Shorten up your back swing a little but try to keep your hands hinged and your lead arm straight.

I assume that you have a adjustable driver, have you closed the face some ?

If everything else is correct, a weaker shaft can produce a fade. Lead tape on the heel can help.

Going heavier in weight, can cause fatigue later in the round and will lower the ball flight.

Bopper yes I closed it some, I have a TSR3 with a GD DI 6 stiff. I didn't have great feel with golf clubs. Heavy or light they all feel similar to me. We switched to stiff+ and 120g kbs on the irons and it was like walla!! No more fade super straight very small fade and draw depending on face to path.

I was fitted In aerotech reg flex 95g at CC ......terrible choice. I hated them. Hung everything high sliced right about 25-30 yards offline right. 8 iron was going 125-130ish with that setup, I was scared to swing had no idea where the ball was going

New setup fitted by different place, KBS 120 stiff+......8 iron beautiful high flight 155-165. Small draw or fade by 2-5 yards depending on face to path

I am starting to feel like the driver shaft is creating the same problem

I was having issues setting the club because I couldn't feel it.

That's kinda what I'm thinking, I went through this with my irons and just couldn't get the face closed

The TSR3 is a little fade bias to begin with.

You might want to scour the net and pickup a Tensi White pull or a Ventus black shaft pull.

I had this same issue. I had a 60gr stiff. Got a new driver with a rogue white 70gr xstiff. Spin is way down (even went from a stealth plus to a G425 max) and I can feel where the head is so much better.

Probably the VF and the UB.

The VF is pretty hot on Tour now.
