Had a great time yesterday at Greensboro National. He's 17 and has been playing a bit more lately with me.

He usually shoots around 110+, but he got into a zone and he was smiling all day having a good time.

Holes 4-9, he went off.. +1 E E +1 -1 and finished with a 96. Get a couple of those triples off the card and we'll be all good.

I'm just a happy dad this weekend.

Great story Dad. Next big milestone will be the day he beats you for the first time(unless that’s already happening ;)).

Always good to break a round number!

Keep grinding. 90 is next.

My 60 year old arse and your 17-year-old son would shoot about the same.... good for you...today was a 48-42 round that I loved... hitting balls , drinking cans with your baws

Disagree. Count all the strokes and you will really see improvements. Penalty strokes are part of the game.

I really look forward to those days with my son. He just turned 5 a week ago and got his first set of clubs. He's not exactly interested yet, but he does like going to the course when I do go. Hopefully we can practice a little at home to get him interested. Trying not to push golf too hard though, don't want to push him away from it.

My nephew just started playing, he's 17 I think. I only just found out he's playing. Next time I'm in town I definitely want to get him on the course.

Don't get me wrong, but my son could shoot a 120 next time we play. I've been working on helping him with his game for years. Sometimes sons don't believe dad's advice and it takes a while for them to figure out dad was right.. I didn't start getting serious trying to teach him anything until he was around 12 or so I guess. Before that, I wanted him to just have fun while improving on his own sorta.

But I'm now trying to teach him more about course management and how to shave strokes where he can (not that I'm great at it myself).

So much fun. Breaking 100 is a big thrill for your son. Next breaking 90 is another huge day. I remember witnessing my son make his first hole in one. He banked it off a tree and did not even see it roll into the hole. Needless to say he was hooked on the game for life after that.

Yeah, I'm definitely going to have to temper any expectations as far as what and when he will want to learn. I've been around golf and in the golf business for most of my life so I'm eager to teach him. But I know he won't seriously want my advice for a number of years. I just want him to have the opportunity if the interest develops. Currently he is always wanting to do whatever I am doing and loves to go to the course when I go.

After double bogey, beginners should pick up. Nobody cares if you shot 112 or 118. Pick that shite up and keep practicing.
