long lay off

Haven't touched my clubs in 5 years and was invited to play this weekend. Prior to giving up, I have played golf since I was about 8 years old, and when I stopped I was 27.
Anything I can do around the house today and tomorrow besides swing a club? Any drills? I don't have access to/there is no range nearby.
I know I will be far off from where I was, and I don't really care (I was a 7 handicap when I stopped playing). I just don't want to make a complete fool of myself. The good thing is, the two guys i'm playing with just started, which is part of the reason I agreed to play.

swing a broom ... the width of the face should be perpendicular to the path/direction ... you'll feel it when you start too soon or too late on the downswing, and it forces you to use larger muscles to create some speed ...

I laid off for a year due to acute tendonitis in my left wrist. First round out shot a natural 83 (no gimmees, no Mulligan's, nothing outside the rules), even though my first shot off the tee went OB and I dropped two in the drink. I felt really, really happy with that score after such a long layoff.

My body comp has completely changed since I last played. Went from 185 skinny fat to about 180 and lean/built. I just hope I have that swing memory. I know short game is where most of my strokes will be lost, but kind of excited to pick up a club again.

Just hit shots at about 80-90%. Don't try to kill or guide it. Swing smooth and buy the first round.

Ranolf Junuh tied Bobby Jones and Walter Hagen at Crew Island after a 12 year layoff. You’ll be fine... just find yourself a magic black caddy

If u were a 7 the basics should come back to you.
Just go have fun - u ain’t out there to earn a paycheck.

Don’t do anything before. Generally after a long lay off you play somewhat decent because you aren’t thinking at all
Don’t go back out to the course though without practicing

Last spring is was in the same situation as I had lost almost 65 lbs. the first round was rough. Completely different feeling. Less resistance in my swing path due to increased flexibility I didn’t know I had. Weird feeling, but for a really good reason.
