Imagine paying to go watch Lucas Glover and Zach Johnson on the 4th of July

If watching Zach wasn’t bad enough, the damn bird noise

I think Lucas Glover looks a lot like a hungover Dennis Quaid.
ETA: Fowler still kicking in this.

They have a sponsor.
I think the top 4 get into Open Championship.

It’s Moline, IL. The town doesn’t care who’s playing and supports the tourney. They also invite a ton of young college players. The tour needs events like this

The Tour has asked them to move the event to Chicago.

And the tournament director said those conversations never happened and it’s staying in the quad cities

Gotterup is -8 for day and 1 back from lead thru 14. Leader does not bogey though so Chris will have to go take it.

Wow. Gotterup started 5 back. Now at -9 for day and sole lead! Leader bogeyed a hole on back 9 for first time this tourney plus Chris at 9 birdies helped. Chris on last hole and Kohles on 14, so it may not be enough but thats one hellofa comeback
Update as I typed. Kohles birdied 14 and now both tied at -20.

KOHLES IS WET!
Tied for the lead and seeking his first PGA tour win, he duck hooks a ball into the water next to the green on 18.
He’ll need to chip in for par to force a playoff with Chris Gotterup.
Unreal.

Gotterup wins his 3rd of the year. What a comeback today

Absolute terrible terrible approach.
On a hole that only had a handful or less of birdies today, he decides to go pin hunting instead of getting on and two putting for par to go to a playoff. No reason at all to do that with how the pin placement played today.

That was a $641k mistake.
And what a round by Chris. He had to pass a lot of golfers to win too. Kept it clean all day.
It was just about 1 year ago when he win the Scottish open for his big breakthrough. And now has made some money:
Chris Gotterup's victory at the John Deere Classic is worth $1.584 million for his third win of the year.
That takes his prize money in 2026 alone to $7,400,966—surpassing his PGA Tour career earnings of $6,601,783 coming into this season

He is always emotional and it shows how much winning on tour means to him. Had his brother on the bag to boot! I enjoyed last year with him going toe to toe vs Rory and winning in Rory’s backyard

TPC Haters are down bad.
They’ve produced some bangers this year.
Gotterup and Hideki in a Playoff in Scottsdale
The Fitzpatrick bros at TPC Louisiana
Cam Young with that bomb on 18 at Sawgrass
Viktor and Scottie dueling at River Highlands
Gotterup tearing up Deere Run today

Been some great golf this year. For me it helps having college players to root for. And with college sports doing great it helps create more pro sports followers

One last note, if you enjoyed Gotterup then this article is a must read.
Here’s just the first part but cluck on the free article to learn more about his journey. He has a great story. This was posted a month ago. And it was written by him alone:
I didn’t grow up as the can’t-miss kid. I wasn’t the junior golf prodigy everyone had circled early. I was the guy figuring it out a little slower, taking some lumps, learning the hard way what worked and what didn’t.
At my first stop in college, I built myself from the ground up. I went from being outside the top tier to becoming an All-American, but even then, it didn’t feel finished. COVID hit. I had hand surgery. My senior year didn’t go the way I wanted. It felt incomplete.
So, when I was gifted one more year of eligibility, I knew I needed something different. Not comfortable. Not familiar. Something that was going to push me.
That’s what Oklahoma was.
It wasn’t just about golf. It was about putting myself in an environment where everything around me demanded more, things like more focus, more accountability, more belief. I didn’t go there to ease into anything. I went there to see if I could actually become the player I thought I could be.
Looking back now, that one year changed everything.
