I’ve never golfed before but would like to start

What’s the best way to get into it?
Buy a cheap pair of clubs and start playing as much as possible? Get golf lessons?
I’m left handed, and it’s always been hard for me to try and get into it because anytime id be at a golf course with a friend they’d have right handed clubs so I could never really try to see if it was a sport id have a knack for.
Any advice for a college student trying to learn how to golf would be appreciated.

just understand that you will never master the game! no one ever has. with that firmly implanted in your mind, get some clubs and get after it. and learn the rules....both written and unwritten.

Go to a public driving range that has clubs you can use/rent. Get out there and get to swinging. If it takes you 5 swings to finally hit the ball, leave. Stop at the nearest bowling alley. Try that. Golf isn't for you.

Start by not using golf as a verb.

Schedule intro golf as an elective. It gives you unlimited range time. As long as you are remotely better than day 1, it’s a 1 hour A

See if any local courses have a get golf ready program. They give you group lessons and range time. Maybe some free rounds. And the price is right.

I learned to play by hitting driving range balls everyday for 2-3 months. Remember to hit DOWN on the ball. As soon as I did that everything changed for the better.

I’m left handed,
That can be a curse as well as a blessing. Finding clubs to try out is a pain in the arse. Like you said, chances are you can't just borrow a couple your friend's clubs at the range and see if you like them. However....On the other hand, when other LH golfers are getting new clubs, they often time have trouble getting rid of them so they end up having to sell them at low prices. Check places like ebay and craigslist. Maybe even the local course pro shops on bulletin boards. You might find a course that has some LH clubs to rent but many only rent for those actually playing. So, you'd have to pay the green fee and cart and then START hitting on a course. Not sure of your location, but if you have a stand alone driving range in your area, they might have some demo clubs in LH, like maybe a couple 5 irons that you could use.

Take up smoking.
It’s better for you.
J/k
Many lefties actually play right handed- Ben Hogan for 1.
Try it either way.
See what you like.
I write my name left handed and play golf right handed.

Youtube is your friend.
Lots of good instructional videos so you can at least learn the fundamental motions and positions.
Look up Me And My Golf, Peter Finch, Rick Shiels. There are plenty more.
This video recently came out and is a good place to start: How to Break 100 in 6 Weeks.
As far as clubs go, get used from ebay or a reseller like 2nd Swing Golf. Plenty of great used clubs out there. You can fill a bag of clubs less than 3 years old for less than $600.

There are many YouTube videos that can explain the basics (grip, position, swing path, etc) for all facets of the game. Get some clubs, hit the range.
I didn’t start until 25 and have been addicted ever since.
As for getting clubs, look up golf digest best clubs from like 2013-2015, buy some on eBay. Regrip and get after it. If you like it, buy new ones.
