I've tried overlap for the heck of it on numerous occasions and just feels really off to me.

When I first took up golf in my early twenties, I played Vardon overlap but my dominant right hand overpowered everything at the release point and caused pull slices.
After a year or so I changed to a double overlap grip which succeeeded in stopping my right hand from taking over at the bottom of the swing and also freed up my release very nicely!
After about three years using double overlap I switched back to a standard Vardon grip and have had great results ever since
