Had a great trip last week seeing some family and friends. Played the 2 RTJ courses at Hampton Cove in Huntsville, the McLemore and a private club that had caddies. All were good courses and only had one trash round the first day, so I am happy. The McLemore is a special course that needs to be played a couple times to learn but it was fun. The elevation changes are great and the finishing hole is all world. The greens were the hardest I have ever tried to read in my life. What looked uphill was downhill. Breaks were hidden on almost every putt. A real challenge. They are building a Hilton Curio spa resort and another 18 hole course and will soon be a top destination resort of the south.
On my final round I played with a member at his club that requires caddies. After lunch we walk to the practice range to be greeted by our caddie. His name is Van Earl Wright. I am sure some of you know that name and would certainly recognize his voice. CNN SPORTS.
Now in his 60s, he had a bit of a downfall in broadcasting and is now working the country as a caddie at private courses. It looks like he cleaned up his act and is enjoying this adventure. Interview .
As a caddie, he wasn’t very knowledgeable about the course we played and could not read the greens very well. As an interesting person to walk with on a loop….it was memorable.
Also, very cool to have every drive, shot and putt described like it is on sportscenter. I hit one tight on the last par 3 and it was like I just clinched the US Open. Will remember that for a long time.
Just wanted to share.

No. Southern TN. They have a no social media policy so I do not want to get my host in trouble.

Very much looking forward to this. My wife and I have to travel to Atlanta for our store 2-3 times a year. Will be planning on checking this place out on the way out of Mecca.

Yes, he caddies at the Honors Course. He's also caddied at Pebble amongst other places.

Mclemore is awesome and I assume the private course is the honors course. One of my dads friends is a member there and I’ve heard they won’t let you take pictures while on the grounds. Apparently one of the top courses in the south

It’s phenomenal. Played in the 1991 US amateur there and then played it several times as a pro. The owner of the club where I worked was a member and played college golf with Duval and Charlie Rymer at GT.

The Honor's Course is one special place. Played it many times, as my buddy was an assistant pro there. They had Carp as big as sharks in the lakes.
