I’m a great putter. Never lift your head up to watch your putt. Stare at the ball and the spot after it’s gone.
Increase your backswing. That gives you a smoother stroke and prevents you from being jerky.
Hit the ball firm, with pace and confidence. Don’t baby it to the hole. Even on short putts. Hitting it past the hole at least gives you a read coming back. Not getting it to the hole leaves you in the same spot.
Go practice and get the feel for all of the above. Every course will have a different speed. You’ll figure that out on the practice green in 5-10 minutes, but the above will keep you consistent.

I've really committed to improving my putting this year and it's really helped me out on the course.
The one thing I changed - I practice every single night at home for 10-15 minutes with the Perfect Practice mat. I putt from 7 ft and focus only on being able to start the ball on the middle line and keep it rolling on the middle line all the way to the hole. It has helped me develop the feel of what to do to hit a putt that is perfectly on line so I know how I should set up on the real greens.
Also, before my round, I dedicate 20 minutes to putting. I put a tee from 3, 6, and 9 feet from the hole and try to make 3 in a row from each spot. If I miss one I start over. Also take a few putts from 20+ feet from random spots to dial in speed.
IMO speed is way more important than line on putts outside of 6-7 feet.

My perfect practice has a break in it so the lines are useless.
Also Opie, buy a new putter. Always works.

So good advice in here already. While not a great putter, I did take an aim point class from certified guy at Kelly plantation. I don’t do all the fingers standing behind the ball crap but it did help me with reading greens.

I switched to armlock and noticed an immediate uptick in consistency with set up and stroke…
Lost all touch in 20+ ft putting…. So there’s that

Take a lesson from an elite putting instructor. Kevin weeks (chicago) is the best. It’s a cheap flight from Nola and worth every penny!

This year I started using alignment sticks when practicing putting. On days when I'm just practicing.
Like the picture, but only using one on the top side, not two. I put the ball as close as I can to the stick without my putter touching it. It makes me pull back on line. My natural stroke would clearly be to far outside because I would bump the stick almost immediately.
Just started working on this this year and I have definitely improved. It felt super odd at first, felt like I was pulling the putter so far inside but it's just my stroke was that far off. When I drop the stick down now my putter naturally doesn't touch it. I keep practicing with it for aiming purposes. Biggest improvement has been in the 10-15' range. Making a lot more of those than I did last year.
Now if I could just get my SW back to where it was last year I'd be playing really good.

quote:
Putts breaking below hole have no chance going in.
Heard Jack Nicklaus say on air one time that he considered missing on the bottom side the pros side. Which is opposite from what some believe.
If you miss on the bottom side but started it out on the top side, you gave the ball a chance of going in the hole. If you start it out high and it never crosses the hole, then you never gave it a shot of going in actually. Same for if you started it out on the bottom and miss at the bottom.
Either way, a miss is a miss
