1 in 151.
Way better odds than making birdie on the last 5 holes to do it.

quote:20% is about right according to the odds. And a lot of it has to do with how often you get to play and which way you're trending.
As a 5 index, I feel like I shoot 77 or better around 20% of the time.
but generally speaking, a 10 shouldn't be shooting close to par in tournament conditions.

That 5th flight 70-70 is pretty impressive.

Fair enough. We didn’t keep individual scores on Sat but I would have shot 87 with my ball. My best score out there is an 80. My GCAT index from a few years ago was 9.9. I told them 10. I don’t play as well now because I only play maybe once a month. I can shoot in the 70s on occasion however.
When I booked our team he asked our index. My teammate has a 7.9 at Fernwood CC. I told them 8 for him. They placed us in a flight based on that.

if y'all want to see some real sandbagging go look at LGA Net Amateur results
Posted on 8/27/18 at 1:08 pm to icegator337
the guy that won the LGA net amatuer has 20 rounds in the last 2 months posted with incredible consistency in that 18 of the 20 rounds were 82-85. The other two rounds were an 81 and 87. Almost as if he just put in a bunch of scores recently to get a handicap where he wanted. After remarkable consistency he manages to fire 77 and 76 on consecutive days under tournament conditions.
ETA his handicap index history is also laughable if you look it up on GHIN

It's worse and more apparent if you do more digging.
His last tournament scores were 75/77 back in June...
And if you check his index from the past year:
1/15: 5.0
2/1: 5.0
2/15: 5.0
3/1: 5.0
3/15: 5.0
4/1: 5.0
4/15: 4.8
5/1: 4.8
5/15: 4.8
6/1: 4.8
6/15: 4.8
7/1: 4.8
7/15: 4.8
8/1: 5.4
8/15 9.2
So yeah... he put in a ton of scores between the first of august and the 15th to nearly double his handicap. Can the LGA do anything?
ETA: He "managed" to play 11 full rounds in 15 days at the beginning of August... that's certainly impressive

I'd assume almost every winner of the LGA net amateur was either intentionally sandbagging, like this case, or doesn't have a handicap and came up with a number that he thought would be his actual handicap but isn't.

And that's an odd statement considering how obvious Daniel was with his scores.

I've never, nor will I ever play in a net tournament like that one. Only fair way to do those tourneys is the way Greystone 4 ball went, with divisions flighted by handicap and then play strictly gross. I just think ppl should call out obvious cheaters, it ruins events for others that spent time and money and came with a legit handicap

Okay, Daniel.
Seriously, that may be the worst defense you could possibly have in a tournament. Golf course length is overrated af. And it still doesn't (and can't) explain your BS index over the last year and how you were suddenly able to play 11 times in half a month just before the next revision... Dude.
ETA: nice edit from "We" to "They"

He jumped to a 9.2 from a 5.4 in one revision. That takes sheer effort to do, and knowing how to manipulate the handicap system.

most of his scores in GHIN are from TPC LA players and tournament/players tees. The posted distances from those tees are 6172 and 6374. So it wasn't even a short set up for you...
