Greatest shot that never happened, or maybe it did.

Playing the weekly scramble at Ft. Polk (Johnson), nine holes, three- and four-man scramble yesterday. Start on 13, par 4 dog leg to the right with trees bordering on the right just right of the cart path, maybe 300yds. First player playing from the regular tees, one up, launches his drive to the right into the trees. Well hit but can hear the ball brush a few limbs or leaves as it travels through the 90 percent air. I lose it once it gets to the trees but one of our other players says it was well hit and headed right at the green, cut the corner so speak. Anyway, the rest of us hit and another partner smokes his 30 yards from the green. We look for the first players ball in the trees, no luck. Go to the drive in front of the green and I chip up to about 4 ft above the hole. The person who hit the big drive we used goes to the hole and removes the pin to line up our birdie putt. When he does, there is a ball in the hole and it's the same kind as the one that went into the woods by the first guy on the tee. Callaway three stripper number 3. We are all dumbfounded. Could it be? Maybe got through and hit the cart path and found its way to the green and gone in? With another group on our heels, we decide to go ahead and putt for the birdie and go back and look to see if we can find the ball in the woods. We look for a few minutes and can't find his ball. We make the birdie and go on, but not without talking about what could or maybe happened on our first hole. Since we finished on the hole ahead, we stop and look again to see if we can find his ball in the woods. Find several but none are his. It's a blind tee shot so we couldn't see it nor did anybody else from other holes next by. Nobody was ahead of us, so it wasn't from another group in the scramble. Never played with the guy but he could definitely move it off the tee. He and the guy who drove it 30 yards from the tee where neck and neck off the tee on every hole. Could have been the shot of a lifetime that maybe will never be.

You call that a hole in one and move on to the next hole. Since you had completed the hole but weren't aware of it, the other shots don't count.

The most amazing part of this story is that you played a scramble tournament and there wasn’t a group ahead of you or behind you. That is impressive.

Its certainly possible. I would count it especially considering he wasn't the one to find the ball in the hole.

Did he have a personal marking on the ball? I bet he does from now on!

The group behind us caught us and we explained what happened and wanted to look for his ball again. We gave it a courtesy look the first time and moved on to the shot we played. They were a 3 some so they would of caught us anyway. There were only 6 teams I believe, we won scorecard playoff -6.

This isn't your group is it? I saw this on Instagram (Zire Golf) the other day and it was some shenanigans by the group ahead. Seems to fit what you are saying.

Instagram Reel link - eerily similar

If I find my ball in the hole, it’s an ace. If I see someone move it, it’s not.

I’d know, I mark mine

Haha. Fair enough. Never played anything around there before. It was just such a similar story to something I had just seen. Would've been hysterical if that was the video...cold blooded, but hysterical.

Played Beaver Creek the other day. While putting on #10, a kid teed off and him and his friends starting yelling at us. He drove it right on the edge of the green, 15 feet from the flag. Wasn't mad at him since it really was an impressive drive. But I can't lie, I wanted to put it in the cup.
