I go to put the flag stick back in the hole and as I slide it through my hand towards the ground I felt a sharp stick in my hand.

Apparently the fiberglass had splintered on the flag stick and a sharp shard of fiberglass about two inches long and as thick as a roofing nail were embedding in my fingers.

My middle finger was skewered right down the middle and now attached to my ring finger like a finger kabob.

Thing was so sharp it barely hurt, but the visual of it sticking through two of my fingers was pretty awesome. I casually showed my weak-stomached playing partner (who had to sit down), then bit one end and pulled it out. Blood was pretty heavy, but stopped fairly quickly and the holes are almost completely healed up in 20 minutes.

This was on hole 3 and I finished my round and played actually pretty well. Barely bothered me yesterday at all.

Today I woke up and both fingers are massively swollen, can't bend, and purple/redish in color

Played golf my whole life and this was a new one to me

If you putt with the flagstick in this isn't a problem

Infected... Might want to get your affairs in order. Or get antibiotics.

I'm not a doctor, but that's not good.

I've done that a few times with the bunker rake (although not as serious an injury as yours). Now I'm careful not to let the rake slide through my hands.

Doctor buddy already called some in for me and I'm picking up after work.

He said other than that, not much I can do.

You can file suit. At least try to get a free round or two out of it. Golf for a year would be my opening bid at mediation, at least. Maybe mix in some free lessons once your finger swelling subsides.

I was very close to asking for a free round.

I told the beer bunny girl what happened and the pro was out there in like 2 minutes with tape and band aids. I kept saying "man, that flag stick really got me. Pretty dangerous. Someone should go fix that."

He just kept apologizing and didn't offer me shite.

I'm the opposite of litigious though. I'm not threatening to sue, that's just not my style

I got cut once from an aluminum handled bunker raker that was hit by the mower. Bunker rakes are dangerous.

I've had that happen before. Not fun. I now always pull it with my glove on with glove hand on older fiberglass flagsticks or use the flag as a buffer. shite hurt and can get infected easily.

Saw this happen to a partner about 20 years ago. The splinter went thru the skin that stretches between the thumb and index finger and stuck out about 2 inches.

As others have said, you have an infected wound. Get it checked ASAP or you may be off the course for much longer.

Opening the door to the pro shop and got a splinter in my hand. Wasn't very big, never could get it out. It just floated up thru my skin.

UPDATE:

Got a free round.

Emailed pro shop and asked if they had replaced it yet because I didn't want anyone else to get hurt. They called me back and gave me a free round
