Getting New Irons

I'm going this weekend to get a new sets. Any recs on models to look at? I plan on hitting some of course so I'll end up with whatever feels the best but wanted a place to start looking.
Currently hitting an old set of Cobra S9s. I still like them but I lost my 7 iron and cannot find a replacement.
Edit: Budget is $1k but obviously wouldn't mind spending less.

There are tons of clubs out there because everyone is so different. My rec Probably wouldn’t fit you at all.
If you like your old Cobras, go check the new ones. Start there

Like I said, I'm just trying to get a starting point because there are so many. I got my current set 12 years ago so I feel like that's a long enough time frame where current Cobras could be drastically different. I don't necessarily want to spend a whole weekend in Golf Connection. I mean I easily could but I got places to be.

I like the Ping i200 &210 as well the - wait for it - Tour Edge EXi irons. Very affordable and are great clubs.
If you want something similar to your clubs now, the Wilson D7s or even D300s. Also, the TM M family of irons are great as well. I haven’t hit the newest one but m1 and 2 were great.

I trust the guys a GolfBalls for fitting much more than golf connection. They’ll have you set in under an hour. Call and schedule a time.

Just curious coach, but any specific reason why? I've just always gone to Golf Connection when they've been opened.

Any set from a major manufacturer will be fine, don't listen to anyone on here telling you a specific brand.
Go get fitted at a quality place and keep an open mind to take any brand you hit well and feel comfortable with.

Neither one of them are worth a shite in my opinion.

They all hit the same. They really do.
Downvote all you want. I tried out 5 iron brands last time. I could close my eyes and never tell them apart. They hit the same.

I've dealt with both over the years. To me, the guys at Golf connection, while great guys, don't seem to really care anymore. If you ask them about a club, "oh yeah, that's a good club." I tired to get fit there, and they basically said, "whatever you like."
At golfballs, they are hungry for a sale. They will go into the numbers with you. Get you the right shaft, head, and grip cobmo that you will hit best.
There are a couple of guys that will steer you toward a brand, but the numbers dont lie. Buy what you hit best.
One last thing to keep in mind. Wait until after Christmas to buy a new set. All of the major brands will release their new gear in February. They will start to unload at the turn of the new year. Most companies will not charge you for upgrades on shafts, custom work on loft/lie, and grips. It saved me several hundred dollars to wait until January/February to buy.

Which set to look at is user specific and you won't really know until you try them. If you're looking to eliminate clubs, eliminate styles of clubs. Are you a low single digit handicap? If not, eliminate the blades.
Are you looking for super game improvement clubs or a general, middle of the road club? If middle of the road, you can eliminate some game improvement irons.
Is there anything you like or dislike aestheticly? I hate huge offsets, so that would eliminate some sets for me. You may be different. You can probably eliminate a lot of the store this way, but steering someone towards a set of irons is really hard.
With that said, Mizuno.

Yea blades are out for sure. Don't like offsets at all. I hit my irons fairly consistent already just mainly looking for something to get some more distance so I won't need a 3 iron since most sets seem to go 4-gw. For reference I hit my 9 iron 150. My usual shopping technique for any club is to first grab off the wall and find whats comfortable, then swing those.

How much more distance do you want? That’s how far I hit my 9i, and I’m plenty long. Get a set 4-GW and add a 3hybrid or 5w.

My 9i is 150-155yds as well. I play the TM p790s. Best iron I have owned so far.

Not much more. And the more I think about the more I can probably do without a 3i. Could supplement a 5w in its place. The thought of having another wedge in the bag isn’t terrible.
