re: Fluffing your lie

I’ve played for almost 50 yrs.
I’ve been in a real, deep, inarguable divot probably 3 times. Each time I played from there. Some decent results some less.
I’m not quite sure where most of your statement is coming from, though. I never said it happens very often. I was giving the original post, about a drive in fairway being expected to provide a certain lie, the benefit of the doubt. I’d like to think bumping the ball was done if it’s in something pretty significant. If it’s simply because there’s slightly less grass than you like or slightly more and you just want the absolute perfect lie according to your individual preferences, then by all means roll the ball. I’ve said repeatedly I don’t care. Hell, I’d even play you in a money game and allow it. Well, a reasonable one anyway lol. I’ve never said anything like ‘it’s not golf’ etc.
But in that case, the comment should just be that you prefer to roll your ball and tee it up. If it’s not being rolled out
if seriously bad lies all that’s being done teeing the ball up. To me, hitting every shot from a lie that perfectly matches a golfer’s own particular tastes is a bit extreme.
Bump it, don’t bump it, it doesn’t really bother me one way or another what someone else does. I’m just trying to present another view, which happens to be mine, that a drive in the fairway isn’t necessarily expected to result in perfection.
Tight lies, fluffy, lies, they are all fine with me. Mainly because I play off of all of them regularly.
It doesn’t seem like playing the ball down should be some kind of extreme position, especially combined with the statement that others can do as they wish. ?????

quote:Agreed. Yet this extremely remote possibility has been the justification for multiple people in this thread to play the ball up at all times
That I can remember, I don't think my ball has ever landed in a divot off the tee. Maybe it has. But it's pretty much a non issue.
