Looking to get new irons. Currently play the Hogan Apex Plus forged irons and love them, by the older I’m getting, I need something a little more forgiving and still get some distance. Right now, I like the looks of the WS V6’s and Mizuno 919’s. Thoughts?

More forgiving? You’ll probably like the mixing better. Take a look at Srixon. I love mine. Everyone that tries them seems to like them.

How are those Hogan’s?

Love them, had them for 20 years. Great feeling and a players iron, the sweet spot is extremely small. Getting older sucks. Lol what Srixons are you playing?

I have the 565s. They are the most forgiving ones they make.

Some people play a hybrid set with the 700 series in the scoring irons and the 500s in the longer irons. The 900s are blades.

What irons did you play prior to this set? Have you found that you hit farther than before?

You aren't likely to get any better distance out of either, but especially not the V6s, which run a degree weaker than the Apex Plus. The V6 and the 919 Forged aren't really in the same class of iron either, with the V6 being aimed at a much lower handicap. That being said, I play V4s, which are VERY similar to the V6, and they're pretty forgiving for what they are.

If you really want higher lofts (more distance) and more forgiveness, I would really look into the Srixon 5 or 7 series irons, or maybe the WS C300 Forged.

I play the V6's and they're the best set of irons I've ever hit. The only thing missing when you flush one is the angel chorus. But as far as distance and forgiveness, I don't think they'll be what you're looking for.

Before my Srixons, I had Callaway Apex Pros. I did gain distance with these, but I’m also hitting them better; way more in the sweet spot. It’s allowed me to slow down my swing and not try to kill it all the time.

With this set, I got fit for the right shaft which probably has made the most difference. I don’t remember the difference in iron lifts b/t this set and my old ones.

Mizzuno Tour 7 - PW
Mizzuno Forged 4 - 6

The mizzunos are pure - love the control and feel. The srixons May be the better club - control, distance....the mizzuno paired with modus nippon 130 shaft allows me to attack greens with just a bit better groupings.

I bet the srixons are a club longer at least.

Reading everyone's comments, I will start to check out the Srixon irons too. I am a 4 handicap now and love the player controlled iron, but the I am starting to feel the age creeping in and losing a little consistency and when I miss hit my current iron, I loose too much distance.. lol Sounds like the Srixon irons might be worth a look. Has anyone played the Calloway Apex 19 Forged Irons? Thanks everyone for your input.

I am big on Mizuno, Ping I Blades and some Srixon if you are looking for a better players irons.

If you want a good look but with a lot of forgiveness then you should hit the Ping G410's.

I am dumping my all Cally bag for a all Ping bag. Just ordered the 410's with KBS Tours.

The lofts are jacked even a bit more than the CF16s, but otherwise they seemed extremely similar. To me they have too much offset, so I had trouble not over-drawing them. They're very good for what they are, but for a 4 handicap, I wouldn't really recommend them over the Srixon 5 series. I guess it depends on what your stock shot shape is, and how much extra distance you're after.
