Is this something new or have I missed it in the past years / tournaments?

What is this all about? aren't the people pretty well screened walking in?

Always happens every week at every tournament for bigger named players

I either need to watch more golf, pay better attention, or they normally blend in better.

The big name golfers have security walking with them at the Zurich Classic in New Orleans.

They blend some with a polo shirt but they have a backpack on them. I am sure the backpack contains weapons.

I guess that is the thing. I have never noticed uniform police packing heat walking down the fairway. You would think they would blend in more as to be less of a distraction, more secret service-y

At the Zurich, I think the security was state troopers.

They had on blue polo shirts, khaki pants, ball cap, radio and of course the black backpack.

I have no idea what was in the backpack, but it is easy to guess.

Not every group had the security detail. Some group had 1 person and other groups 2.

They did not stand out, but it was hard to miss them walking up the fairway with the players and caddies.

At the WGC the big names had armed officers walking step for step with the players.

For lessor known players, there was no security whatsoever....but there was no gallery with either. I follow a Euro player and listed to every word between him and caddie - it was cool listening to them map out the shot.
