PXG had the perfect thing going as a boutique clubmaker and marketing itself as a super premium brand was working and they experienced growth.

Discounting a 4 month old Driver was a horrible strategy
quote:I seriously doubt what they are saying about the price going back up is true.
that Driver will die on the vine starting 9/1.

There's plenty of boutique club makers that have a viable business and are really expensive. And the direct to consumer market at good prices has exploded.
PXG has two problems. They don't know who they want to be and the clubs aren't good. They can't be a high dollar boutique club maker because the clubs don't reflect that, and they don't want to be a discount manufacturer either.

Thier retail store concept will tell the tale.
Their irons are very good regardless of the haters.
I have tried enough different clubs in the past 2 years to say that.

That strategy works well with can goods, but golfers are a very fickle bunch
Lord.. Other manufactures outside of the golfing world do this and we're not talking canned good here... Nikon and Canon are perfect examples for price skimming practices that PXG is seemingly following .. And golfers are no different than any other hobbyist
You offer a product and a good one mind you for a inflated price to capture your innovators from the very start and this group tends to be a very small group.. After that early adopters who tend to be slightly more influential buyers get in on it typically buying at near full retail like your 1st group but still discounted .. Then you then drop the price to capture the other target of your product the early and late adopters and by then your looking at at a new lineup/generation and start the cycle over..
and with the leftover inventory last bit of the curve called the laggards are buying the previous gen at a deeply discounted price and getting a deal and the company dumps inventory that's been allocated to be made and sold...
Ya'll may not like PXG's business practices, but let's face it PXG is gaining market share at a rapid pace and if you want to stay in the golf club arms race this type of sales trend is gonna happen.
Now do I feel that PXG going this hard at the driver market doesn't make sense.. But I do think it's a direct shot at capturing major market share at a more rapid pace than normal.. Why they are doing this ?? ya got me... I can only speculate..
Could be that there are a lot of guys out there that swing PXG irons and don't own anything else myself included.. and maybe they're trying to get that segment to give the drivers a shot and dump inventory all at the same time..

Very likely. I believe that PXG is in it for the long haul primarily because of their access to capital.
I love my 0311P irons with the MMT shafts and I have no plans of getting rid of them. Very accurate, long, forgiving and great feeling.
You are 100% correct about guys playing their irons only.
PXG is still a very young company, no need to pass judgment on their longevity right now.

Exactly.. Bob has pretty deep pockets..

I have a set of 0311's as well just with Project X shafts.. I've had no complaints.. I'll definitely buy the irons again..

I know 2 other guys that currently have 0311's in their bag both have mixed bags like me.. I've got the LTDx driver,G425 3w & 3H, Titleist U500 (compliments of this board..) PXG 5-G , RTX 56° and a 60° SM9
Scotty putter as well....
I just can't get behind a full bag of 1 brand.. I just think certain clubs when you find one that just fits it's hard to give up..

Agreed

I agree.
I played Pings for 30 years and loved them.
Cast vs Forged has never been an issue for me. They both feel good if you hit them in the middle.
I really liked my Cobra LTDX LS driver. My nephew borrowed it for a tournament and won't give it back lol.
I am very comfortable with my G425 woods and will use them for a while.
I will say that the Gen 5 XF hybrid with the MMT shaft is the best hybrid that I have ever owned. It just wants to go straight.

Yeah I've never really been able to tell a difference..

Interesting.. main reason I haven't really fell in love with any hybrid is due to me always pulling it left.. but I tend to due that with most long irons...

I'm the same way. I can't hit a fade, but I can hook it around a building. This hybrid is straight as a string for me.
I really suggest trying one at a demo day, it has small rails that works out of any lie.

Some folks want to hold the commercials against the product.
Plenty of good reviews on the net for the 0311P irons.

I love my irons. As a former PGA professional, I can say the irons are the best performing I have ever owned. The driver and fairway woods just weren't for me. I bought the Gen fours at a discounted rate and couldn't be happier with my purchase. I'm not gonna say the woods are crap, but the feel, sound and distance just didn't fit my game. I bet most haters have never even hit a PXG club.

Pretty positive ringing endorsement here..

Yeah, I agree and they have a long way to go to catch up to some of the big dogs like Cobra and TaylorMade..

It's a multi-tiered pricing strategy that other larger and older companies have used for a long time..
Yet none of the "older" companies do this?

Well said.
The irons are superstars.
Wedges are good.
One of the biggest complaints with the driver are the available stock shafts. Such a weird mix from blue riptide to NV.
You can get any high end shaft for a upcharge .
I actually like the 0211 fairways better than the Gen 5's.

I'm not sure, I have heard that it is a very good discount.
They will advise you when you call.
