Picked up a Titleist 917D2 9.5 yesterday from a friend. Has an Aldila Tour Blue shaft. Any experience with this driver or shaft. Going from an Old Taylormade Burner driver. Should I consider buying a newer head to put on this shaft or is this a good driver?

I don't but to truly tell if it's a good driver/shaft for you is to get on a monitor. Compare the numbers to your Burner, mishit dispersions, etc. What may be a great combo for you can and will be a terrible combo for someone else.

It's only 7 years old so I'm sure it's a good head. Is it good for you is the question. My driver is 9 years old it's only 2 yards shorter (monitor numbers) than the newest stuff out but I was fitted. Hope that helps.

If it is like all Titleist Drivers. The head is heavy and not for me. But you might like. They all look very good at address. It's just the weight I never like.

I played a 913d3 up until this year, the 917 is a great driver and not super outdated.

Rick Shields did a video covering 2 decades of drivers (1990's to 2010's, IIRC) and he picked up 18 yards in that time frame.

I've gamed older drivers that were significantly longer than the ones that replaced it. Ping Rapture (OG) was one of the longest ones I've played but unforgiving.

Find a shaft that compliments you and the head and you'll be fine.
