Are they all garbage?
Can I spend $300 or less and have a decent net to full swing irons into?

I can vouch for the Spornia SPG-7 net. Mines been problem free for 3 seasons now

Best bet I’ve found is just a thick painters tarp.
Fraction of the cost, way more durable

Why not just use foam balls?
Nets are fine to work on your swing and you don't need to hit a ball to do that.

You can hang a towel or sheet in front of the net and it will take most of the impact so even a cheaper net can hold up. Otherwise, those cheap nets will most likely end up getting a hole and letting a ball through eventually.

Is it as easy as advertised on setup and take down?

Setup is easy. Folding it back up isn't bad but there's a learning curve. First time took me a few tries
