I have no basis for saying this but I think this style of Zelda movie would fail miserably

You are correct. Lets have a protagonist that doesn't speak for 2 hours lol.

That was part of my reasoning after I submitted the post. There is pretty much zero dialogue and very minimal interaction between other characters who are mostly NPC types anyway

Eh, Link speaks you just don't hear or know exactly what he says. They did that intentionally so the player would feel more immersed and imagine what they would say. The NPCs clearly react to what he tells them.

I always get a kick out of how they portray this.

Link: *gesticulates randomly and nonverbally for two seconds*
NPC: "So you're telling me that Ganon returned from the dark realm and kidnapped the princess and imprisoned her in his tower and unleashed an army of evil monsters on Hyrule and that nothing can stop him from conquering the whole world except the power of the Master Sword whose location is unknown and whose very existence might just be a myth passed down by the ancestors of the sages and that the only wielder of such a blade would necessarily bear the Triforce of Courage and you think that person is you?"
Anyway, live action puts some serious constraints on the project. You have to nail the casting. The new SMB movie avoided this problem completely and was probably far better off for it. I can buy just about anyone voicing a character if the voice is done well, but getting someone to fill the physical role is a shite-ton more challenging.
And I don't know how you pull off a decent Zelda story in a standalone film. Metroid would've made a much better pick for something like this.

Especially in the two open world games, it seems random as to which characters speak and which don't. Zelda definitely talks, Link doesn't. But then you get to the other random NPCs who also talk, and others who grunt or say "ahhhh" like the idiot Zora character.
