The final boss makes what would be an 8/10 to a 6.5 or 7/10 at best.
Get ready for unskippable cutscene hell. If you die, it's literally the only boss in the game that kicks you back to the title screen.
The problem, I feel, with the combat is it feels so random. You'll be fine one second and then the game just murder fricks your healers through some AOE or because your tank lost aggro, and when your healers die, you're shite out of luck. The fact that the fight continues afterwards is hilarious.
I know there are accessories that allow other party members to revive but in 70 hours of gameplay, I have not come across a single one, and that's just bad design.
Monolithsoft's "throw everything against the wall to see what sticks" game design has me considering giving of the franchise. No other game in the franchise has lived up to the original.

If you have difficulty with the combat or want to keep it casual you have to be over-leveled, which is really easy to do in the game. I'm constantly overleveled for the story, and have been for all 4 games. But I also seek out appropriate stuff for my level along with the story.
That or just decrease the difficulty - it makes no difference to play on easy in an XC game.

So I finally got to I guess the first "big" reveal - the Consul J.
The combat has definitely opened up a bunch more to make it much more fun.
That being said I do not enjoy the game when the difficulty is on hard, but if you want a challenge on anything but a very small handful of enemies you have to have it on hard, I just don't like the gameplay when it is.

I just started skipping cutscenes.
I can’t take them anymore.
The emotions and “woe is me” pity parties that are rampant in some JRPGs wears on me after a while.

These are like, 100% Blades right? Like, It's super obvious that all of these are Blades being used in some kind of experiment (maybe to fill the world with land, since that's what Blades are used for, so they are speeding up the process by making them fight in perpetuity?), it's almost too on the nose to not be, and I'll be happily surprised when they aren't
Finally beat the game, and sadly the story probably would have been better had they gone this route

ETA: There were some story revelations that broke me in this game, way moreso than any other Xenoblade Game to date:

I was a wreck for a few days after that

I'm going to say it...
This game is too big, too long. I just can't handle open worlds like this. I have to do everything and it gets tedious. love the game, love the combat, but as said above, I still haven't beat it. 110 hours in, and just have started skipping 90% of cutscenes
