Xbox One S as a media streaming device, how is it?

I just purchased a Samsung UHD TV before christmas, as well as a Roku Ultra (the samsung tv doesn't carry all of the apps i use) which was around 120-130 i think. I haven't had issues with it, but I was wondering if I should get the Xbox One S as a streamer instead, considering it also has the capability of playing UHD Blu-Ray.
This would pretty much only be used for streaming (watchespn, plex, netflix, amazon, etc...) and playing UHD Blu-Ray discs. And while I'm not a big gamer, I've always been in the Sony camp and currently have a PS4. However, their Pro version didn't include UHD Blu-Ray capabilities for some reason, so i'm looking at the Xbox One S because it can play UHD Discs and is relatively cheap, but I don't think i've actually ever played on an Xbox tbh.
So, just looking for advice on whether or not the Xbox One S would be a capable media streamer, and UHD Blu-Ray player? Feel free to add any other pertinent xbox information for someone with zero experience.

Flat out one of the best available. It is fully capable of being the center of your home entertainment.

I don't think it's powerful enough, but those 3inch diameter 4k chromecasts are

Wait, what, really? I assumed the Xbox would be considerably more powerful than your average streaming devices/sticks, considering the full on gaming they were built for. Or am I just missing your sarcasm?

It's really good. I've got about 10 4K blurays and the Vudu Xbone S app has a ton of 4K movies to rent as well for $9.99 a rental.
The Samsung remote works well to control the whole system, don't need the controller.

YESSSSS!
this just sold me. i was wondering if you'd be able to control the xbox with the samsung smart remote...other than the picture quality the ability to control all of my devices so far has been one of my favorite features. a bit limited at times compared to full functionality of certain native remotes, but still gets the job done and soooo nice only having to use one remote.
Are you able to turn the xbox on as well from the samsung remote?

I figured it might, but I just don't use it to stream shows since it won't do 4K. Thanks for the heads up though.

I really someone would develop a Spotify app for the Xbox One. That's one of my only complaints for it as a media device.

Sony has a deal with Spotify I think, only reason it isn't on the One.

They do. Sony used to have their own music service on the PS4 and for Sony phones. They ditched it. Now if you sign up for music service on the PS4 it is Spotify.

It's a fisher price 4K player. It can play 4K media but it's def not great at it.

Huh? The 4K BluRay player is excellent. I've watched about 10 now.
I've used it for Netflix 4K and Vudu Movies to rent 4K, and it is fast with zero issues.

It has FAR more processing power than any standalone BluRay player out there.

Even if you start using the XBox as your media hub I'd hang on to the Roku. I travel a bunch and take it with me all the time. Most hotels now have strong enough WiFi to use it to stream and it's really nice to have when you want to watch something on a channel the hotel cable package doesn't have. It's specifically helpful during football season b/c channels like ESPNU and FS1 don't usually make the hotel cable cut.

Get one of these. Compare it to the the Xbox One S then let me know what you think. I think you will agree with me. Panasonic - DMP-UB900

Well yeah. I would hope that a $700 dedicated Blu-Ray player would outperform a multi-use game console. So will the $500+ Oppo units.
Your statement is still idiotic.

Not really the OP said he wasn't a gamer. I said the Xbox One S wasnt a great 4K device which it isn't. You may disagree with me and that's fine, but if my opinion is that if I'm not a gamer I'm not buying the Xbox to stream or play my 4K media.
