PS4 dominated the Xbox because of MS's arrogance. It's easy to forget MS Dominated Sony with the 360, outselling it 2-1 in the states (though globally it was more even).

Bundled kinect and always-on licensing, restricted game sharing, etc, and the opinions changed instantly in the US.

The XB1 got trounced.

They've worked hard to correct it (and I'm an xbox-first guy, though I have had a PS3 and PS4 also). And they continue to work hard to correct it.

But the XBOne launch is the worst mis-step in the history of the franchise. Much worse, even, than the red ring of death.

Having said that, MS doesn't seem to care much about having a leadership position in terms of console sales. They're making plenty of money and seem happy with their strategy. And just because they're finishing in 2nd (I don't count the switch...which I also have...because that's just kind of a different market) doesn't mean you're not doing well.
