Worth it? Alienware 34" 1440p OLED To Alienware 32" 4k OLED?

If some of you remember, I splurged on a new computer back in February. I'm currently running a 14900k, 4090 & 64GB RAM. I opted for the Alienware 34 OLED. I've been super happy with it, but as I've watched more movies on it I'm starting to wonder if I should just go ahead and grab the new Alienware 32 OLED with 240hz Refresh Rate. The 34 has been great for gaming and watching content, and one important point I guess, is I do watch more TV and movies at my desk than on my actual living room or bedroom TVs. As nice as the 34 is, and I do like the ultrawide and extra space it provides, I'm wondering if it would be worth jumping to the 4k OLED, especially if I watch a lot of TV & movies on it?
Part of me feels like I'm happy with what I've got and, if I do upgrade, there's no rush and I can always be on the lookout for a sale. But the "buy it now" part of my brain wonders how much better gaming and watching content would be with 4k and the much faster resolution available. Thoughts?
I'm leaning on just being responsible and sticking with what I have for now, I've only had the monitor and new PC since Feb and that's coming from 1080 being run on a 24 and 27 dual setup powered by a 980. So I've already experienced a HUGE upgrade. I just find that little 4k OLED 240 bastard is often lingering in the back of my mind.

The MSI version is better than the Alienware version. Brighter and less issues. Recommend you go read the forums on Rtings about them, better choice is the MSI MPG 321URX.

If you want to jump to 4k, by all means. That’s a you choice. With that said, are you doing any gaming that would justify going to 240hz? Certainly nothing you’re watching will care.

So the new ones this year all have Dolby Vision now, if he's watching a lot of movies being able to have a TV quality Dolby Vision 4K QD-OLED is a nice jump up from those 2nd Gen dimmer panels and 1440p.
The 3rd Gen panels can hit 1K nits in HDR rivaling and beating several OLED TV's for example.

Not arguing with that at all. I was more trying to get to the bottom of this, in particular:

Because the answer is "probably not at all”, so why are we focusing on it?

Gaming yeah probably not.
Starts to sway it back in the other direction for the big jump in picture quality here.

Appreciate the insight, fellas. I'll probably hold off for now, but I'll also look up that MSI monitor mentioned. Even watching content is still a huge upgrade compared to what I was used to given the OLED panel. I can get some mileage out of this and go to 4k later on.

Josh - I wanted to get your take on using a LG C3 (or C4) as a 4k monitor, particularly the 42" ones.
I am going to play Cyberpunk and Baldur's Gate. I do not play COD/MW or most first person/fast twitch games. I'm more about immersion in single player games (RDR2 and Subnautica are examples I have hundreds of hours in).
I know I would have to configure things much more deliberately around a 42" TV versus a purpose built OLED monitor, but is that crazier than what they're asking for these 240hz rigs?
And, what is the minimum to drive a C3/C4 at 60fps? Is a 4070 Ti Super enough?
Thanks.
(ETA: This is relevant as I am considering the monitors in the OP, as well as the MSI and Gigabyte alternatives...)

This is correct. I am about to buy this exact monitor
Can't wait to experience HDR on PC

What GPU did you go with Carson?

I have a 4080 Super now. Gonna get the 5090 as soon as I can

Isn't 34" pretty big for 1440p?

I can look into it, but I haven’t shopped for a monitor in… frick, four years? There are other people on here who know way more about the current market than I do. With that said, I’m always nervous about TVs as monitors due to pixel density and grey to grey time issues, but I have to think they’ve come a long way. The flip side is there’s a reason monitors usually cost more than a similarly sized TV.

Nah, I’ve got a 3440x1440 34” and don’t have any pixel density issues. With that said, I wouldn’t go any bigger at 1440p. Though personally, I probably wouldn’t go any bigger regardless, as 34” in UW already fills my field of vision enough that it can get me motion sick

That MSI monitor looks out of stock everywhere.
Posted on 5/26/24 at 10:48 pm to Ace Midnight
Yeah I've seen it in stock once that was about 2 weeks ago on BestBuy. $250 less than the Alienware while being better...it doesn't stick around for long.
Monitor shipments were supposed to pick up end of May so we'll see.

What about burn-in? Seems like all of the youtube videos show plenty of burn-in after a few years.

While this is definitely an issue with OLED, there are ways to manage it, both within the monitor itself and a few apps to run in windows.

People online have 4000-5000 hours with the LG OLED monitors and no burn in to speak of. I'm not worried about it
Who keeps a monitor for 5+ years anyway?
