What Would the Master Race Do? Crossfire a Nvidia 550ti or upgrade all together?

A buddy of mine built a computer a few months back. He has a 550ti graphics card in it. he wants to be able to play BF4 on it when it releases. should he upgrade the card or buy another 550ti and crossfire it.

I'm not really sure if "crossfire" is the actual term. Just now starting to learn.

We played BF3 on it on ultra settings and it seemed to run fine, however, Dice suggested that it have at least a 560ti for the ultra settings(if i'm not mistaken)

what settings does he want to play on. It's hard to tell until the game comes out and gets benchmarked but a 660ti should be fine.

Ultra. Whats the point in playing on PC if you're not gonna play it with max settings?

depends on whatever is available at the time bf4 drops

hard to speculate this far out.

a $500 card now may only be $350 when bf4 drops.

something like a gtx 670 for instance

fwiw I have a 550ti and absolutely love it. So im dealing with the same considerations too.

I like the 660 ti. considering upgrading in a few months as my nvidia is staring to have fan problems.

Amd has better cards for the price points for the most part.

AMD is the better bang for the buck company right now.

As far as going from a 550 ti to a 660 ti, that $300 upgrade isn't worth it. Wait until you can go a couple more tiers up.

now i also hear that if you have an intel processor, go nvidia. or amd processor, go radeon. any truth to this?

No. You are fine with either but if anything there is asome speculation that with an amd cpu you are better off with a nvidia gpu. Very little research has been done on that though so even that is a bit of a stretch.

Is nvidia the standard when it comes to game development?

not necessarily. different games are developed with either amd or nvidia optimizations that make them preform a little better for either system. I would say more games are optimized for nvidia. Also, if the game is optimized for one the other might take a little time for updated drivers to come out to make things run really well. Driver support is better on nvidia, although the amd beta drivers have been really good lately.

Depends on the game. Like bioshock, crysis, and tomb raider are better on AMD cards (Duh, AMD sells them with their cards) and the batman series is optimized for Nvidia.

There usually isn't much difference in frame times, it's more so little buggy things here and there

That sounds like a lot to be concerned for a pc gamer.

you really can't go wrong with either. when I say it takes time to get updated drivers to improve games optimized for the other I am talking a couple days.

Yeah its not a concern at all.

Were all enthusiasts. We like comparing cards, benchmarks, etc. All a hobby.

You can't really go wrong with any choice
