Sales in Europe, Africa and Asia? Outside of North America, it doesn't sell very well.

Why is that?

They have a deep-rooted hatred of Microsoft and most things American.

Then why did the 360 compete so well with the PS3? It couldn't possibly be that the product that Microsoft has put out the last 2 generations is simply less desirable right?

The cheapest PS3 is available for £299, versus £159 for the Xbox 360.

Initially the X360 held the lead in Europe due to being almost half the price of the PS3 but overall the PS3 overtook them.

PS3 sales overtake 360

This helped too

What is stopping Xbox from competing with other consoles?

They're trying to sell Game Pass, not consoles.

The future is cloud gaming, XCloud is already delivering games.

Umm huh and How does one obtain game pass without a computer? Why not scratch the Xbox all together.

Game Pass works great on my cell phone. I guess we could get super-technical and call that a computer if you'd like.

There's a pretty good selection of games that can be played on a cell phone or tablet with a bluetooth-enabled XBox Controller. I usually just play the games that can be played through touchscreen though. I mostly play Roguelikes such as "Slay the Spire" or "Monster Train" on there, but I did play through a bit of "Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice" using only touchscreen, and it worked great too.

Even more reason to ditch the console and just sell the subscription. A large portion of gamepass looks to be games made for hand held devices...I mean if that’s the type of gaming you like to do. It feels like an App Store when I browse it.

A subscription makes sense if consoles aren’t profitable right? Or are they not profitable with the amount being sold? I think PS5 seemingly doing okay in that department. Especially considering it’s infancy.

Is Microsoft trying to make up for its lack in sales with its game pass subscription?

And is PlayStation 5 going to end up profitable because of the amount of console sold due to having better exclusives or whatever reason? This still has a ways to go as the $399 version is still a loss but it’s basically still in its infancy.

Imagine if PlayStation implements something like game pass...I imagine they would if they already haven’t. I’d have to think profits would skyrocket especially with the amount of consoles they will sell. My guess is they don’t have this cloud? Or it wouldn’t be quite as smooth?

Typically it takes few years before the console itself is profitable and is why MSFT was ahead of the game with selling Xbox Live.

Microsoft is moving in on Steam to become a gaming platform on PC. Buying Bethesda and their allegiance with EA is just the start of that movement.

They'll have a country mile on everyone else in the console race at the end with the Switch coming in 2nd.

Sony will have to become a software company in order to compete with Game Pass. As far as a cloud offering, I can't see it. Google has Stadia and AWS has Luna along with their own gaming division. Sony sure as hell won't team up with Alibaba even with their robust cloud offerings. Any other cloud provider is chicken shite compared to AWS, Azure, AliBaba and GCP.

And look I’m genuine in these questions for real. Trolling aside I just want to know MS’s plan moving forward. Again...I want them to give me a reason to invest.

I’m honest when I say I could give a rats arse about some console war. This thread was a life saver at work today. Nothing more. All I want to do is play good games that I’m interested in playing. PlayStation is just the one that has what I’m looking for. If these games were on Xbox...I’d be on Xbox etc.

I own a switch because it has exclusives I like. It’s just that Xbox literally has nothing to offer for me game wise any more and that sucks. I totally understand that it does for a lot of people.

I think game pass or anything subscription based that provides a large amount of good games is a great idea. If I could pay $15 a month for game pass that included all previous and new playstation exclusives...I’d be licking my fricking lips. But at the end of the day...I just want to play the games I want to play as does everyone else.

Thanks for the info.I haven’t kept up with MS since the early release of One. It makes total sense for them. All of that and having those game options for mobile. I’m also interested because as you said Bethesda. Ill be playing elder scrolls no matter what so if the requires an Xbox...so be it. The purchasing on Bethesda caught my ear and im genuinely interested in how that plays out.

Gaming is a drop in the bucket for MSFT but they still take it seriously. They've thrown semi-loads of cash at their cloud services and Xbox/Game Pass will benefit from it as they've got datacenters across the world that can deliver. Even though I am just a fry cook at Popeye's I've kept a close eye on the growth of the cloud platforms.

Microsoft is making an effort to have a lot of games work through the cloud on the Game Pass app.

Other games that work with touchscreen through Game Pass:

Gears 5
Octopath Traveler
Outlast 2
Wasteland 3
Psychonauts 1 & 2

There are a bunch others, and then there are many more that work with a controller. The full list is pretty impressive.

They won't. They've said so multiple times. They don't think it's viable. They are already too late.

I've seen rumors that they're going to team with Ubisoft to add their Ubisoft+ service too. I hope those turn out to be true.

When i got my PS5 at Best Buy a month ago, they had over 100 PS5's and i think 80 or so XBox X...when they came out in the morning and handed out the tickets, they gave away all of the PS5 tickets and had to turn people away. I think they still had like 50 tickets left for Xbox. so no, its not as fast in every single instance.
