Ultima Online takes the cake for me.
I played for 9 years.
For about 2 years that game ruled my life, and consumed all of my free time. There is honestly no telling how much time I put into that game and honestly Im glad not knowing.

Wow it is the only online game I ever played, I played from vanilla through the update to the pandas. Quit and haven't looked back since
