Tyranny, a new RPG from Obsidian

I hadn't heard anything about this game until I got an email from GOG about it. Obsidian makes some great games though, so I will probably get it.
Trailer
quote:
In Tyranny, the grand war between good and evil is over – and the forces of evil, led by Kyros the Overlord, have won. The Overlord’s merciless armies dominate the face of the world, and its denizens must find their new roles within the war-torn realm... even as discord begins to rumble among the ranks of Kyros’ most powerful Archons. Players will experience the new world order under Overlord in a reactive role-playing game (RPG), interacting with the populace as a powerful Fatebinder in the Overlord’s forces -- roaming the lands to inspire loyalty or fear as they bring control to the last holdouts of the Tiers.
-Branching, unique stories in an original setting: The battle between good and evil has already taken place, and evil stands victorious
-Choices matter – make world-altering decisions with far-reaching consequence: As a Fatebinder in the Overlord’s army you wield a vast amount of power in the occupied lands of the Tiers. Will you use that to inspire stability and loyalty, will you be feared, or will you seek your own power?
-Challenging, classic RPG combat: Tactical real-time-with-pause combat with new party-driven mechanics and modern presentation
-A rich original setting: Not just another “hero’s journey” -- Tyranny turns the archetypal RPG story on its head and allows players to explore a new take on good and evil

Sold, even though I expect another beautiful glitchy mess from Obsidian.
I love this kind of RPGs.

This, DOS2, and CIV VI should be all I need for quite some time.

In, I loved Pillars.
I'm probably in but will wait for the board reviews.

Yeah, I'm okay with that. I started playing the early access bit for a few hours, and decided to just wait for the finished product. I have full faith in Larian's ability to put out quality given the time to do so.

I just hope that in Tyranny you are given a little more freedom in class design. It really seemed to me that unless you spec'd your party into an extremely linear fashion, the game could get out of control on you. Each party member had to focus only on one role. Otherwise you were absolutely fricked when it came time for the final boss.
Another thing I hope do is make it clear as to what weapons would be considered upgraded. Sometimes I would get some crazy new cool looking weapon for Eder, and I would think that it was somehow better for him... but I would really have no idea. The classic D&D scheme would have made it abundantly clear that a +3 longsword is strictly better than a +2 longsword. In Pillars, who fricking knows.
And lastly I hope there are no bullshite enemies like the shades and spectres that would just magically appear right next to your glass cannon schizo elf mage, and just annihilate him. I had to retry so many fights because of that. It was frustrating.
But other than that, I loved Pillars! The DLC was pretty good too!

I appreciated the artwork in Pillars of Eternity, but I found the gameplay hard as balls and utterly unapproachable.

I read this as Tranny. I was confused. I am sorry.

From what I've read, you create your character and then play a lengthy intro. There are six areas that set the world state, and you can directly affect three in any one intro.

Made the purchase last night. I got over 75 hours out of Pillars and I hope this is just as good.

How is pillars if you want to stop combat and issue commands? Is it workable like that?
Posted on 11/2/16 at 2:34 pm to sbr2
You can stop combat at any time by pressing space. Just like Baldur'a Gate. But movement, actions, and everything goes at a much faster pace. I found myself pausing constantly, and reissuing commands. Obviously you can scale down the difficulty if you don't want to micromanage your potions, etc. But what's the fun in that?
