So recent Dev interviews have indicated it’ll be between 12-14 hours long.

My only concern with this is a possible massive effect 3 situation happening here regarding the games ending. In the final battle Leviathan was “lost” which we now know where he was in this imo time compressed realm. This means neither Clive nor Ultima had access to him. It’s just my theory one Ultima went rogue and wanted to leave magic behind taking Leviathans doninant with it in a space where time moves extremely slowly explaining why they never died and were reborn.

We have seen gameplay and know we will get the powers of Leviathan. This means she’s not going to be the final boss. We also know it takes place before the final boss in the main game. This would make Clive the complete vessel and necessarily require an overhauled ending. Would you be in favor of this?

Having to retool the entire ending would ruin it. Probably...

I'm burned out on "sad" endings to FF titles. Even the more recent "happy" endings were bittersweet at best. Last truly "happy" ending (IMHO) was witnessed at the end of FFX-2, and only if you invested the hundreds of hours into obtaining 100% completion to get it.

That said, the ending to FFXVI was pretty frickin tragic and sad after running through a full first playthrough doing literally everything and every possible side quest and exploring every inch of the map because I had already guessed the ultimate ending. After I beat it, I put it down and haven't played it since, because it was very emotional and conclusive to the point that I don't think I'll even play the DLC. Changing an ending that powerful, in any way, would be doing the main plot a terrible disservice.

Then again, if obtaining the essence of Leviathan were to make Clive "complete" and somehow able to save himself as well as a certain other character who perished, then maybe an "alternate" ending that could occur after the fall of Ultima during the beach scene might work, kinda like the "perfect ending" to FFX-2 was if you put in the work.

Either way, DAMMIT SQUARE gimme something to look forward to in endings again. Tragedy doesn't always need to rule.

I think 16s ending was one of its best parts and one of their best in years. Probably at least since FF10. I’m a fan of ambiguous endings when they’re done properly and the story is set to the whole way to allow that, which 16 does. It’s drops enough bread crumbs along the way you could reasonably be on the Clive lived or Clive died side. Imo I think it’s pretty clear Clive died.

But, the question remains, what if he was “the complete vessel” when he beat ultima and acquired his powers? Could he have channeled it? Each eikon is really just one of the Ultimas Or manifestations of Ultima however you see them. There’s a crucial plot whole this dlc must address imo and that’s if he didn’t need leviathan then why did he need any of them? Beyond Garuda as a proof of concept for Clive of course.

I don’t want them to change the ending I think it would be a terrible choice but they’re laying the groundwork for the expansion to do exactly that via dev interviews and press promos. To that degree idk? I think it would be cool if they retooled the existing final boss to add and account for levitation being there, making it a super boss, and giving players a non cannon separate ending for beating it
