The more information that I read about No Man's Sky, the less excited I am

At first, it seemed like it was basically the next step after a game like Minecraft: Take procedural generation and apply it to a universe, not just a flat world.
They have been working on this game for 3 years, and all you are going to be able to do is look at pretty planets, 'discover' things, and then to a grand total of nothing else. It's like a giant museum of a game.
With all the hype this has been getting, I'm starting to think it is going to bomb. There are other games combining galactic exploration with the crafting and building/terraforming of Minecraft and other sandbox games.
Has anyone else been looking at this game or other procedurally generated galaxies?

I think it will be a train wreck.

It's an interesting idea but I have no faith in the game

The hype certainly peaked early.
Kinda reminds me of Watch_Dogs and soon The Division.
The hype comes so early in development, dwindles down to lukewarm, and then launches to okay numbers, but has a "dime a dozen" reception.

One of my favorite comments I read a while back said this would be the game Destiny should have been

I could see that. "No Man's Sky: Destiny without guns".

that's like Call of Duty without guns, then it's nothing like Call of Duty

They announced it way too soon and I'm not convinced there is enough *game* there. Procedurally generating the environments is a good way to save on budget but it has to have interesting gameplay to back it up, otherwise, what's the point?
At least in Minecraft you can create your own fun by building something and interacting with it with your friends and working toward a goal you define. There is exploration but the exploration can drive the building and vice versa. No Man's Sky seems to only have one, small piece of that equation. I hope I'm wrong, though. I hope there is more to it.

That combat they showed looks very tacked on

I would argue that "Gone Home" was basically an exploration game and that totally worked for me (though I know I may be in the minority here). "Gone Home", though, at least had an interesting, moving narrative to uncover.

"No Man's Sky" doesn't have any of that (as far as we know). Maybe it will make for a neat Morpheus / Oculus Rift / Vive game, where just the spectacle of the environments and immersion of the technology are enough to be entertaining, at least until the raw novelty of the tech wears off.

I think it's a really good idea, the massive amount of space to discover is awesome but outside of that it doesn't sound like it will be that great.

This game sounds horrible. I'd rather play Kerbal to fly around in space.

Ok fine. No Man's Sky: Minecraft without crafting or mining, but with spaceships.
