Thanks for the heads-up. I only payed 3 and was confused the entire time. What a convoluted plot. The game itself was fairly fun though and I wouldn't mind playing the older installments.

I had played 1 and 2, but I was confused at 3 also. I never played any of the mobile or handheld entries in the series. Going to be fun to get the whole experience.

As someone who has played pretty much every game, I am still just as confused as I was only playing 1 and 2 initially

Well great. If nothing else, I'm betting they're all good games.

Lot of nostalgia in 1 and 2. Both great games. If you liked 3 even a little bit then you’ll love 1 and 2. The third game was by the far the worst of the three.

Yeah man, they are a lot of fun. But don’t stress out about understanding the story. Just play them for what they are (fan service and fun battle system) and you’ll have a good time.

I'm sure no one cares about my progress, but I'm giving an update anyway.

Played through the first game with my 6 year old. She did most of the fighting and I would step in on the battles she couldn't handle and then go back for collectibles and the optional colosseum battles in the evenings after her bedtime. She's totally hooked now. The first game ended and she immediately wanted to start the next one.

Got the original secret ending that came with KH when it was first released, but not the super secret ending they added with the 1.5 version of the game. I'll YouTube it. I'm sure it isn't worth the hours needed to beat Sephiroth and that Neverland clock tower boss again. Ain't nobody got time for that.

I'm playing through re: Chain of Memories now while my 6 year old watches. That game is ridiculously difficult, and the instant math required is simply too much for a Kindergarten brain. I've gotten through the first set of world cards, so things are going good so far, but some of the battles are ridiculous. I figured it would be KH 1 level of understanding so my daughter was playing at first and picked Wonderland to start with. The fight with the Queen's guard-cards made her give up almost immediately. The fight with Hades at Olympus almost made me want to quit too. I would suggest going with the easy mode instead of the standard mode for this game if any of you decide to dive in later.

Finally beat Sora's story in Chain of Memories. That game is stupid hard. I don't think I'll have another challenge like that during this playthrough.

I guess I'll go back and play the Riku side later. Can't imagine doing that right now though.

Glad I haven’t played those lol. The only non-numbered titles I’ve played are Birth By Sleep and Dream Drop Distance. I enjoyed both.

Dude my 6-year old daughter seriously said "dad you're never going to beat this guy" while I was fighting the final boss, and then I just had to do it. If not for that, I probably would have quit and just watched the final cinematic on YouTube.

At one point I broke down and looked up some deck-building strategies for boss battles, and it seems the consensus is that Chain of Memories is the hardest KH game. I ended up having to create a deck that is basically just straight cheese using a card that allows you not to be interrupted.

I'm going to play through the Riku side because I want to see the story of how he gets out of the darkness but I don't see myself playing any more of this on standard. I'm a "beginner" now.

That sound like a such a different play style compared to every other game

Did you enjoy it at all?

It's not un-fun, but it's a little repetitive. The worlds are almost exclusively the worlds from KH1 because they reused the resources they had already built from that game (no Tarzan, but every other level is represented), so we found ourselves saying "we just did this" a few times. You're supposed to be traveling through Sora's memories, so it makes sense, but it was still repetitive.

Deck building is kind of fun, but the boss battles are very unforgiving. What's really fun is that you create the levels based on map cards you are rewarded in battle. So if you want a level to simply be all chest rooms, you can do that. Obviously you need to fight enemies for exp and new cards, but toward the end of the game I was definitely just speed-running through it with as few battles as possible. The level creation aspect was definitely cool.

The storyline between the levels was good stuff, and answered a lot of the story holes between KH 1 and 2 (like: who the heck is Namine, why is Sora in a bubble, how did Riku escape the dark realm?).

I'd probably just find the cutscenes on YouTube if I had to do it over again, but it certainly isn't a terrible game. It's just much, much more difficult than any other KH game I've played.

Finally finished the Riku side of Chain of Memories. Was more enjoyable than the Sora side, but that's probably because I put it on beginner and skipped a bunch of rooms.

I didn’t think the combat was bad at all for CoM. The game was just too long and repetitive.

I've done it. I have no need to do it again.

Also, he's apparently not the hardest boss in the final mix version.

More power to you. I hate it.

I agree that the game is also very repetitive. Gets worse on Riku's side. I started just running through rooms to the next door.

Still is in KH1, but not in KH2... Lingering Will eats Sephiroths and shits Organization 13s
