find a stronghold and use the End portal to kill the dragon lol. Not a fair fight at all, but still fun.
If you have any enchanted armor the dragon isn't to much of an issue. The only way I usually die in that fight is hitting the ground to hard as I'm trying to destroy his regen towers and he knocks me off.
The wither boss on the other hand destroys me and everything I've built when I fight him. I have one wither skull already though

Yea that mob catcher won't actually be useful since I have so many torches around my house. That's more just a last ditch effort if a a creep is following me and I don't want it to destroy something useful/have my items go anywhere.
I'm going to make a bigger mob catcher outside the edge of the complex where they tend to spawn and usually you can collect a lot of useful items. The idea is that they get caught in the water flow, get rushed into the middle, and drown there. The items then fall through into the dry area below and collect. A hopper chest usually works well with it but it can fill up quickly

For the wither climb up to bedrock in the nether and spawn it where it gets stuck in bedrock blocks. ImpulseSV did a video on it recently and I'll link it
Eta: LINK This is from the server he plays on called Hermitcraft. Largest watched vanilla minecraft server on YouTube right now with about 10 million combined subscribers amongst the 26 or so members. I highly recommend checking some of those guys out if you ever want inspiration or new ideas as they're top tier. Impulse, Tango Tek (brilliant), xisumavoid, and iskall85 are all worth checking out

Man i wish this was cross-plat with ps4. I've been following this thread anyways because I got hooked on this game since back when hawgfan had his original minecraft thread.
I've killed the Wither twice without spawning it in the nether. I platinumed out the game and did it once just to do it, then they had an update that added Kill the Wither and Craft Beacon trophies so I had to do it again.
Here's my method.
Find a large village, the kind with 6+ house and multiple farms. Plant acacia trees all throughout and around the village. Spawn the wither in the middle of the village.
this provides a few advantages:
1) you can use the houses as cover as you're running around
2) the wither will attack the villagers, and they're slightly better than cows, pigs etc at staying alive and getting cover. if you can keep a few of them alive once you get to the melee part of the fight it's a great relief to have him chase a villager instead of you
3) something about the weird shape of the acacias can cause the wither to get caught up in it for a little while and still leave you open to attack him
the disdavantages are it completely destroys the village and probable kills all the villagers
also use speed potions and regeneration potions. and of course, disable autosave before the fight so you can try again, have a shitload of arrows, enchanted armor, sharpness enchanted diamond swords. the last part of the fights is always just desperately spamming the melee attack and hoping he dies before you do

you should get an xbone and join the fun
but I'm sure it won't be long before crossplatform between xbone, pc, and ps4 is a thing

Villagers are way too precious to spawn a wither near them.
Minecraft 1.9.2 is a decent update and I really wish they'd keep console updated with PC but the vast majority play on PC. and I will be too here soon

They will farm for you. And you can trade with them.

If you breed them enough you can find some great trades for enchanted books and other items hard to collect. And like the poster above said they will farm for you too

I never traded with them much, my home base has always been too far and I didn't want to keep running back and forth.
Once I did the cure zombie villager thing I got the idea to create my own village next to my house, but that was way too much trouble. Only a very small percentage of zombies are zombie villagers, they don't know where to go (or maybe they try to walk to the nearest actual village) and the only way I could keep them safe was to immediately box them in a small 3x3 fence as soon as they were cured. And it's just random which occupation they are, and I don't know if can breed them or get them to stay somewhere that's not a designated village area. I managed to get two next to each other but quit after that

It's very complicated and you can find videos on YouTube explaining it but villagers detect the number needed for a village by the amount of doors. So if you craft tons of doors and trap villagers in an area they will begin making baby villagers to fulfill the need for more villagers
It's infinitely easier to accomplish on the PC and I'm not sure it's possible on console. I've tried it but haven't come to any conclusion on the matter. I'm way too invested in watching others play than playing myself

Internet is down in my area so the world will be offline until they fix it
Posted on 5/9/16 at 2:59 pm to hawgfaninc
I won't be able to get on for a few days. Will you reset the Nether. I want to do some major construction in there
Posted on 5/9/16 at 3:00 pm to Dr.Funke

Found a village and a desert temple earlier. I'll post the coordinates for the village in a bit, but it's left edge of the map a bit less than halfway up

Messed up and didn't have it on auto save when I went afk. Power just went out in my area so it reset back to when I last played and saved :(
Hopefully not too much of ya'lls work was lost. I'll be sure to put it to auto save from now on when I'm afk.
