There is a place in Prairieville called Gamers Paradise LLC.

If they don't host a game night of their own I certain they could point you towards one

They host on Thursdays

My fiancé and I are interested in playing board games and getting involved with other people or even groups who shares the same type of hobbies we do. Does anyone know of anything out there that could help lead us in the right direction? I have been trying to do a little research on it, but I can't come up with anything. Thanks.

Modern board games are awesome. Like really awesome. Sometimes better than video games *gasp*

In terms of groups, Meetup.com is actually pretty reliable when it comes to board game groups, just find the biggest one in your area.

My suggestions is to start building a decent collection, that can always lead to more connections, more people and new people to get into the hobby. Almost everyone can enjoy a board game, and it;s super nice when you can get some older who never played something like video games and someone younger who sits on video games all day long to be competitive on the same playing field. Very cool to see.

In terms of a great place to start for games, I'd check out:

Ticket to Ride
Pandemic
Splendor
Love Letter
One Night Ultimate Werewolf
Coup
Hanabi
King of Tokyo

Settlers can be too mathy, too quiet. If you want the Settlers feel without the boringness I'd look at Lords of Vegas. Very very awesome, and way more interactive. Better for a group of people. Settlers is fun, but serious and long-ish.

When your numbers never get rolled, yeah, I can rage on that. I started one game out without a single gained resource for like 4 - 5 turns. Was never in the game.

As others said, find your local gaming store. They'll have boardgame nights or be willing to host (though CCGs sometimes tend to dominate these stores nowadays). Social Media is usually pretty good as well. There are a couple of local gaming groups that you can connect with on Facebook around here.

My kids (7 and 10) and I have started playing Mice and Mystics. Pretty fun for them. It's probably not "crunchy" enough for real gamers in that the rules can be a little loose.

There's a whole new generation getting into tabletop RPGs and Euro style boardgames. Kids who are hardcore online gamers have recognized that it's fun to be more social and hang out with their friends in a face to face setting, and boardgames provide a great outlet for that. My nephew, who is a hardcore console gamer along with all his friends, would get together and play Settlers and other games with them.

Those of you that asked about Twilight Struggle and Dead of Winter. Those are my two favorite games in my collection. Very intense games. Twilight Struggle sometimes feels like it could end relationships.. Lol.

<------ Has not played either.

But I really want to. I'll never find anyone to play Struggle with.

And i have it's more elegant, rare cousin on my shelf that i still haven't played: 1960: The Making of the President.

Sounds like a plan. We could get a good game night going sometime soon. Let me know when you and your gf wants to dabble in some games.

Wow. Wil Wheaton is pretty much universally loved in gaming geek circles. Never seen this much vitriol leveled at him.

Did he TPK you at a con or something?

If you want to keep civil relationships with your friends and significant other, don't play Sorry

That game will ruin your marriage and cause you to lose friends.
