and possibly the PS2.

Eh, I don't think any console will ever do that again....That was kind of a perfect storm. Nintendo shunning 3rd parties. Control of the Media storage, at a time when the media storage mattered most, and was the most beneficial difference. An unproven 3rd contender.

Unless it's a monopoly at some point by some one

Those reasons themselves are why they won't touch any Sony console as far as sales.

The Wii was within a million of PS1 sales, and both the DS and Gameboy exceeded it. I do think the Switch will outsell the Wii and the PS1. The PS2 may be unassailable, but the DS also came within a million of it. I think it is possible that it could actually compete with the PS2 like the DS did.

A different landscape.

Kids and teens play phone games for their mobile devices. Social media is a game in itself for them also. You are thinking past DS sales will be a 1 for 1 with the Switch. It won't, different time.

While that may be true, I work at a college and the "real" gamers upgrade to PS4 or PC when they get to college. I can not tell you how many students start playing non-iPhone games when they get away from home. This only includes the small portion of kids I see on a daily basis, and the % is high even then.

There are actually 2 gamer clubs at my college: League of Legends, and other, the other group has a Smash tournament once a month.

ETA: the gamers upgrade to ps4s mostly~ however I am surprised by the number of students that have told me they will probably play Nintendo games exclusively after graduation though... "because there is less time constraints on Nintendo games for a professional"

ETAA: there are enough gamers on campus % wise that classes ended up getting cancelled due to a "walk-out" when we had destiny 2's online ports blocked

Yeah you are making my point for me.

I'm speaking SOLELY to the mobile/portability pull of the switch. The Youths pull mobile on phones but become Twitch stars with PCs and consoles.

Agree. Takes less investment. You can just pick up and play. Doesn't take you 10+ hrs just to learn the mechanics of a new game.

I wasn't trying to discredit you, so that's good. I did want to point out that console gaming isn't becoming obsolete though.

Which in my opinion is the selling point for Nintendo consoles / games. Also the Wii children are starting to come of age... The switch could be a perfect storm for Nintendo (think all the Apple advertising in the 90s..) with people who grew up playing the Wii with their parents are now getting old enough to buy their own consoles.

Also PS: I fricking love the portability of the switch, and the younger generation will one day be older and most will enjoy it as well. I'm not blind enough to think it's perfect for everyone though

Yeah but they played different type games. Its not the same console.

1-2 Switch is terrible.

Its not bowling, tennis, baseball and boxing.

The Twitch stars are few and far between, especially now with the actual established ones. Do you think many gamers are going to come in and take the crown from PewDiePie, MewtwoKing, and Zero? Like I'd say maybe like .1% of gamers are successful on Twitch, and probably less than that.

I’m sorry but you don’t vecome a “twitch star” by playing PC and PS4 games. Or Nintendo. You become a Twitch star because you’re entertaining and a pleasure to watch. On the other hand, the games right now that are out right now just so happened to be loaded with PC and PS4 games.

I think this is the key though. I don't think people are overhyping the portability...it's the flexibility that is, in that it is also portable. As a stay at home console, it works. Zelda, Splatoon 2, Arms, and seemingly Odyssey prove that it can put out triple AAA style games with scope and scale.

At the same time it's portable. And I've now played more portable than I have plugged into the console. It won't work for everyone, but for those who it does work for, it's quickly becoming the very best console ever made.

Are you around many kids?

That is all kids talk about. The YouTube and Twitch stars. They want to be those guys just like we wanted to be pro sports players.

Who gives a fckk if they are successful. The point is THEY WANT to be those guys. Meaning they play those games on the platforms.

Wtf does the success rate have to do with any of this?

I think a lot of posters here are over hyping this feature.

Well I played golf and wanted to be Tiger Woods, but that didn't happen. Twitch is completely irrelevant when developers design a console. Twitch will find a way to make it work so long as they make good games. At best, the major Twitch players make up .1% of the gaming population, and likely less.

If the games are good enough, then the twitch players will to those games. People had no problem streaming other Switch games, so what you're talking about is entirely irrelevant.

PS4 practically owns the AAA scene right now anyway.

So the statistics, if his argument had any merit, would already skew the result from the get go.

Well streaming is built into the XBONE and PS4. So I would say yes they do. That is where the younger market is located. Streaming is a thing and Nintendo makes it difficult to do the thing kids like to do or watch ppl doing.

They do not make it easy like other platforms.

This isn't even my main argument of why the Switch wont hit the numbers some of you think. You guys are selling the portability factor as something ground breaking. It is but its not how ppl in the West play games.

The Streaming/Youtube argument is just another example. The Switch platform wont hold your popular streaming games.

There is more against the Switch breaking records than you guys would like to admit.

Melee which is a GC title?

ETA: I saw my Switch received GC controller support. Happy about this feature.

4 has caught on somewhat decently. I haven't heard of competitive Halo in quite some time. Call of Duty is the only one on the top of my head that may compare, but I can't tell you who those guys are. The guys that are great at Smash though are fricking rock stars in that world.

That is correct. I hope we get Smash on Switch pretty soon.

Those aren't big streaming games but I follow your point.

Edt: Would the competitive Smash community like a redux on Smash Wii U or they have technical problems which require a new build?
