Hey guys,
I know the game's kinda old but I just recently started playing Subnautica on the PS5 and I'm just blown away by it so far... Probably one of the most beautiful (and terrifying) games I've ever played.

I'm curious if anyone else has played this and their experiences/tips/etc. I haven't ventured very far beyond the near vicinity of the life pod because it seems stuff gets more and more dangerous the farther you go. I've played a fair amount of horror games but I have never played a game so genuinely scary in my entire life.

It’s a lot of fun if you’re a fan of the survival genre but want something different. Had an actual storyline as well if you choose to go down that route.

Very appealing graphics as well. One of the first games I got that would work on a 49” monitor.

I’m assuming you need to reach the main ship if you want to pursue this path? I’ve made a couple of ventures near the ship but couldn’t find a way in and the radiation wasn’t helping. The two times I made it closest I got eaten by some horrifying creature.

An all timer for me...it was one of those games where I never wanted to stop until it was finished. Great graphics, gameplay, and an incredible soundtrack/score that really controls the mood.

I got my son an Oculus headset and if you think it's terrifying now, you have no idea.

You need to explore around the life pod and use the radio in the pod to get a map bearing to follow to get started. Build your tools and start scanning everything.

You can't approach the Aurora until you have a lead swimsuit fabricated and equipped.

Holy shite, I have an Oculus also and I could definitely see this inducing panic attacks in VR lol. Is it available on Oculus? I seriously don’t know if I could handle that. I don’t know why, maybe because I grew up on Jaws and I’ve always had this fear of the unknown underwater and this game is already so immersive that it is seriously scary to me at times like nothing I’ve ever played before.

One of my favorite franchises. I'll recommend this game to anyone. Played both games and took my time doing it. I play on PC with everything maxed. So nice. It is a super pretty game. Great to play high as hell too. Just chill, farm materials, build a kick arse base, and go deep exploring. There's also a VR version of the game, but I don't think it's quite there yet as far working smoothly. If they can get that working great, it'll be a whole new game. That would be awesome.

Don't forget to build a 3 story aquarium too. Makes a cool feature for your base.

You are in for a fun and exciting time. If you're creeped out now, just wait til you start deep diving. Deep sea diving and Mariana Trench like stuff weirds me out BAD, so this game hit that spot and made it initially freaky as hell but fun as hell too.

I like the puzzle aspect to it too. It is freaky going deeper and deeper. After a while you sort of become desensitized to it though. Especially when you get the prawn suit and big sub. Man, thinking about the game makes me want to play through it again.

Wish they would come out with more dlc or a whole new expansion.

Oh yeah, the music is great. You can find music disks around the world and play them on your jukebox at your base or on the sub.

One of my favorites... it's actually a pretty damn good song. So nice having this playing when riding around the sub

youtube

Also, if you like watching youtubers play games, IGP loves this game and is a fun watch. Lots of Subnautica videos on his channel.

You need a link cable to hook it up to a PC unfortunately.

I wonder if PSVR2 may support it in the future.

I played the hell out of it. I have about 400 hours in the game. The optimization was terrible but it didn't matter. The graphics and music are fantastic. The unknown element makes this one of the best horror games without it actually being a horror game. I started playing well before the actual release date so it is in much better shape today than when I did most of my playing.

You do have to like base building and storytelling by radio messages and data logs. Nothing is spoonfed to you.

Tips. Build your first base near the escape pod. Get used to all of the mechanics. I always build my next base in the red grassy plateau near the dunes. Easier access to the deep zones and then I build a final base real deep.

Exploration of the whole map is what the game is about so I won't give any key location tips.

I used to think watching streaming games was dumb. Then one day in 2016 I needed some Subnautica tips and my views on streaming completely changed thanks to Jack. A bit sad he got too popular and almost never plays games anymore.

One of the best games I’ve played. I’ve never felt a sense of satisfaction and relief from finishing a game as I did with subnautica. And things definitely get more dangerous the deeper you go. The first time I ignorantly and innocently ventured into the dead zone…

I’m working my way through Below Zero now.

Eventually yes. IIRC you can find something that helps with the radiation before heading that way but admittedly it’s been a while since I played.

Yeah, you’ll need the rad suit and probably should have the propulsion gun, too. Be sure to take at least 3 fire extinguishers with you.

Take all of the fire extinguishers. I never had enough. better to have too many than not enough.

Good advice. So annoying to have to make multiple trips because I ran out.

It just went on sale for Switch, $10. I'm tempted to buy it since I've seen so many people rave about it. Reviews indicate it performs decently on the Switch.
