Storage space for game consoles.

So I’m still gaming with the ps4. Few years ago my hard drive goes out because of all the porn I was looking at. I buy new HHD hard drive with 2 terabyte s. My option was to buy an HHD hard drive for a hundred with 2 Terabytes or by a 1 terabyte SSD hardrive for 500. I don’t know how an SSD hard drive would have worked better other than downloading faster? But with 2 terabytes of space I can have way more at my fingertips. I vote more space over than faster downloads

I’m confused. Do you think the internal or external storage impacts download speeds? The only thing it helps is transfer speeds. An internal drive will transfer faster than an external HDD.

As cold storage, it won’t matter much. If you’re playing the games off of spinning rust? You’re going to have a bad time…

An SSD is much faster than an HDD in basically every way. Read, write, and transfer. You have to go into the very high RPM speeds of HDDs to compete, and it’s not worth it. Solid state also doesn’t have a motor than can wear out.
Large hard drives are fine for PCs as a second drive to store lots of files (pictures, movies, etc.)

But what about the porn?

I’ve bought a 2 terabyte HHD hard drive a few ago and had an out standing result
On my PlayStation 4 for the last 3 years. Downloaded and and bought multiple games

That’s fair.
An HDD, or hard disk drive, uses a spinning disk for data storage. This means that finding the data, writing data, etc. is limited by how fast the drive can spin. This is why buying drives can reference the RPM (though not always immediately apparent).
SSD, or solid state drives, operate in a similar manner to your USB thumb drives in that data is stored on non-moving chips. Data writing and retrieval is much faster thanks to this, but they will be more expensive if you try and match the total storage of an HDD.
So HDD are great for storing files in retention (like photos and documents) and can be used for applications that are less resource intensive.
For your gaming consoles that typically just have the one storage drive, SSD is going to be the way to go. If you need more then you want a bigger SSD, not replacing it with an HDD.

Is there something special about the requirements for ps4 drives? $500 is obscene for 2tb in 2023. Mid to high end NVME drives are selling for $200 for 2tb these days.

How about you share the links with us of the drives you were looking at?

A consumer grade 2tb ssd wasn’t $500 “a few years ago”, unless our definitions of “a few” are vastly different.

I bought a Samsung 980 2TB with heat sink for about $150 a few months ago to throw in the PS5. It took about 5 minutes to install. I wish the Series X had the same. The exclusive for Xbox was ridiculous (Seagate card). I bought a Samsung T7 external SSD for it.
