Stellar Blade: Blood Rain is officially the next chapter of the action-adventure franchise from SHIFT UP. Not only will this game continue the story from the original Stellar Blade, but it will star a new protagonist named Eve.

Looks amazing. So pumped

Only the Asian studios seem to be able to crank out AAA games with any frequency

This was my post in the other thread. I'll likely end up getting this and it'll probably be good, but my initial reaction was not as pumped as some people's.

The Stellar Blade sequel was announced today at Summer Games Fest.

Hard to get a true feel for the game based on one gameplay segment in one location but I gotta say I'm a little underwhelmed.

1. Stellar Blade is a still brand new IP. I'm not a big fan of swapping out the protagonist already in the first sequel. Evie? Temu Eve. Why do companies do this shite? When I pick up a DMC game I want to play as Dante, not Nero. When I play MGS I wanna play as Snake, not Raiden. When I play a God of War game I want to play as Kratos, not someone else. The protagonist is usually central to the core identity of the franchise. Not a fan of this choice.

2. The city they had int eh first game was by far the worst part of it. The only part that actually flat out bad IMO. The rest of the game was fantastic. THe city was god awful. That kinda worries me. Being forced to do littl efetch quests for NPC's in town and hsit, totally not what I want in third person action game.

3. Not a fan of the new gal's look. I'm sure it will be heavily customizable, but her default look is extremely tomboy. The haircut and voice, ugh. I'm sure you can giver her longer hair and stuff in game, but her "canon" look is meh. For her frame her boobs are totally normal sized, but normal sized is odd, but she might as well be flat compared to pretty much every single girl int eh first game. If they decided to go more conservative this time around it's very disappointing. The first game had sex appeal front and center by default. I really hope they aren't now toning it down behind optional outfits only.

It's way too early to say any of that for sure, but all in all not a fan of hte new protagnist mostly.

Thanks for dropping this in this thread. The one you started had more context than this one so your moving this here is appreciated.

In general, I agree with you about the swapping the protagonist. However, this game looks fun. I hope the story provides some context as to why, but I really enjoyed that trailer.

This is a pre order for me, if it launches on PC.

I would have thought they would want to establish Eve from SB1 more concretely. She's the face (and T&A) of the franchise. When they added a bot for her in Astrobot, seemed like they were actually trying to make her a legit new recognizable character to build an IP around. In this era of desexualized characters, she coulda been a new Lara Croft archtype character.

Her getting sidelined instantly strikes me as the wrong business decision from an IP standpoint. I'm guessing they'll have her make an appearance in the game most likely, maybe even play as her occasionally, but then you get into the Dante/Nero situation. Where you're stuck playing 80% of hte game as Nero wen you actually just want to play as Dante.

I like the new fighting style and change of character.

The last game’s canonical ending kinda ended Eve’s story.

Not sure how you could bring back Eve after the “Making New Memories” ending, which is the canon ending.

She is basically a god by that point, fusion between human and Naytiba.

Her story was pretty much completed. They probably didn't expect the support they got at release and didn’t plan a continuation.

Kinda wrote themselves out if it.

I’d bet my life that Eve makes an appearance but yes I agree, not much to do with her after achieving godhood

They could have easily just changed the canon ending to the one where you're gonna keep fighting mother sphere or whatever.

The story wasn't particular interesting, I don't think anybody would have minded them retconning things to keep her front and center. Most people probably aren't even aware which ending was considered "official" or whatever.

Given what we saw in the trailer I get the feeling this game is much more ambitious in terms of scope, which can be good or bad depending on how well it's executed.
